for this photomanipulation, i used texture (snake skin, wood,...) and play with the layers fusion mode
on the Web there exists much tutorials who can help you

Also could remind you of the Mona Lisa, in a way. It is wonderful. Nice effect, but the origanal shot seems great. Favorite.
