Description ARGH I'm one-layer-painting this, and I'm really happy that it is currently looking like this right now BUT,,, I have no idea how continue onto the background,, well I do have a vague idea, but that includes tons of improvising and testing different brushes and trying different tones of colors, which will take up a LOT of time so..... yea..
hhhnnnnnngggghhhhh
I should've started with an easier project to practice one-layer painting with, before jumping into the cold water right away and attempt a fully shaded + background piece

WELP I started drawing this right after watching the animated movie "Origin: Spirits of the Past" which is about a post-apocalyptic world that has been taken over by some failed-experiment-mutation-plant-dragon thing. And was initially inspired by the theme song www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xGoR2… (includes the opening sequence, which introduces the theme of the movie)

My recommendation for one-layer paintings is to paint a rough background first, and after you finish on your main focus to go back and detail it later. Β That's how I do my traditional paintings, and it works out a lot better.

Thanks for the advice!! I'll try to work more around that, and I have to find my rhythm/balance with how to go from sketched out, to cleaned up/detailed :I

This looks amazing so far c: I often think about doing one-layer paintings but I always get nervous and chicken out lol

Thank you!!! I've tried it only a couple of times before, one of them being a way too big project for someone with near to zero experience in one-layer painting :I Deep down. <- I totally grew tired of it after having finished the head, and simply blurred the sketched out lower body.... And finally the one time I did do a more adequate attempt Dragonhead ,, (still very sketchy but it was something I could manage) it's all about expanding your comfort-zone slowly, I'd say :<
Welp but I often have too little patience, and in the middle of drawing I realize how little of an idea I actually have of what I'm doing, so I understand

The good ol' comfort zone; mine refuses to expand into drawing humans lol. I have the same problem with having limited patience; it always creeps up on me whenever I consider doing a background. May we both learn how to expand our comfort zones, haha

Right, right! Goddamn backgrounds D: like I know how to improve skills/become more efficient on that matter (doing studies from photos,, practice) but I never have any motivation to do it, because I know I'm currently bad at it......
So yeah, someday I'll get into practice studies of stuff, and draw for the sake of improving... but right now I'm just kinda rolling with what I know....and hoping that my comfort zone magically expands

I must say I really like your style of painting. I find it very inspiring. ^^ I'm sure the time spent will be worth it.Β

Thank you!!! I'm really new to it, but I bet I'll gain lots of experience if I were to go all the way through with it o:
