We’ve gone too far in the opposite direction, more towards the stagnancy of Huxley’s “Brave New World”. Now sex is all everyone talks about half the time, yet many are increasingly looked down upon if they have more than one child.
Why is it so hard to encourage in general most people to participate in the 2.11 Zero Population model? That’s where an average of 90 out of 100 couples have only two kids, 9 of the remaining 10 have three, and the last 2 have four.
Religion seems to be the key. Most people are either very religious and very non-religious over generations. A middling, kinda-religiosity, it just never lasts. The most unbiased evolutionary psychological data is in: we just can’t seem to stay consistently motivated on the level of general population to reproduce sustainably UNLESS we are AT LEAST middlingly kinda-religious, or more so. Religiosity that falls below that, falls below 2.11 average. But be more religious than kinda, and those people then want MORE than 2.11.
This is an example of the failure of the original mindset of the “Enlightenment” that led to these extremes to deal with such things.
I think such thinkers as Jordan Peterson are to only way off this merrygoround of repeating extremes to find a better way entirely.
