Description
Another new panel to the comic book, and I wanted this one between her returning home and the panic attack. I also wanted to introduce the concept of the suit, and a Siri/Cortana voice to it that gives the reader information. And I wanted her to be annoying. This will come up in a huge way later with the medical kit sequence, so the reader needs an introduction now.We are waiting to do the "climb down" scene as she goes home, so that should be next and I am thinking about how to do this.
This is also my first inset panel, which is a fun way to change a pose, do a zoom in, change the camera, and show movement within the same scene. I am covering up a beautiful part of the background, so that is a minus, but worth it to show movement and a change within the same scene. I still want to be experimental, but I also want to develop this language with the reader of these standard conventions. In this case, the inset panel will be one I use again and again to do this movement and change transition without splitting the page into panels.
EDIT: Changed border type for the inset image.

Yeah, it's a bitch having to cover up a really awesome chunk of scenery, but the drawback is this big empty space that serves little purpose other than to look pretty, and if you can use it to fill up the panel with additional imagery and/or narration, that's an excellent trade-off.

Very true, Bob Ross used to go through that on his show where he would cover up a beautiful part of the picture with foreground elements (bravery tests I think he called them), and it worked out and made the whole piece better. I feel it is the same sort of idea here, you have a wonderful image, but the image alone doesn't tell the whole story, so you balance it with narrative and sub-panels.
One of the things I am wary of is too much text, just a personal preference thing I suppose, but I want to avoid a 'book on the page' thing some strips do. Some creators do that format very well though, I remember some Detective ComicsΒ and other books from the 70's that were almost like books with comic images alongside that I loved. It changes though with the scene and even the strip, and I am still experimenting with the text-to-page ratio. Though on slower scenes, I usually put more text; on action scenes, less.

Wow man this is some cool stuff you're doing with 3D models. Did you make up everything by yourself on this? like the skin for the suits and the model herself or-?
Regardless Loving the atmosphere in this and the sci fi feel to it

The figures, suit, and some of the buildings are not mine - I am just remixing the great work people do (kind of like a 3d DJ lol). I do modeling and I have plans to mix in more of my own stuff, but right now I am nailing down the look and presentation of the series before I start going wild and building sets and figures.
I did help build a lot of what I use, I was a part of the team who made most all of the figures you see in 3d nowadays. I also helped build the software and technology that does this sort of work, so I can sort of say "yes" to being responsible for enabling people to do things like this. It is cool stuff, and it was a cool time. I also know the guys who built Eli's figure Dawn, great lifelong friends of mine, really cool guys.
The environments, terrains, skies, atmospheres, and everything else are me though. If I have a prefab set, I will create a world around it that makes it look like it belongs.Β The lighting is also 100% me. I roll my own lights and never use prefabs. I am a huge believer and devotee in painting with light, kind of like a Thomas Kinkade but in 3d.
Thanks again, it is sort of a comic book I always wanted to read but never could find, so I just ended up doing one myself. Happy to have you along for the ride

Oh wow man, ur all over the place with 3D! Furthest I've gone to is sketchup for 3D but I know that's completely opposite from all of this!
Yeah man the story looks like a good read so far. Definitely look through it

I love the pose with hand on her head, it looks very natural!

Thanks, that was a tough one to get looking good, I'm really happy it came out like this. This panel is really a huge foreshadow to her later heart attack (and nanite heart rebirth), her body can only do so much with the air she has in the suit. She goes through so much, but I love her toughness and will to survive.

There is this cool material effect I hadn't planned for around her feet with that "shattered drywall" look. The displacement on that material was going wild, but damn I loved the look, so I left it and she looks like she is standing on something that was blasted, turned to glass, and broken apart into shards. This is one of those 'happy accidents' you get in 3d, and visually it just looks so cool with the light hitting it.
