Morgan was our production assistant for the Explorer Derica series, and the later Martian Attack series. She also ran a photo studio out in West Hollywood, and she liked to do glamour shots like these.Related content

Very perceptive! I have a more risque sequel to this one as well, and another with her meeting Derica from the retro series. Different/cool/fun and a challenge.

I did more than just a simple desaturate, this is a film process filter, and I am also experimenting with stripping color to study relative values (without color). Sometimes you learn a lot by taking the color out and studying values, dark on light, light on dark, and how dark/dark and light/light interact and can be separated better through texture or other effects.
You notice that in her hair on the dark background, it blends some, but the sheen to her hair makes it stand out from the background even though they are of a similar dark on dark tone. With color, you may not have noticed that (brown on black), but taking color out of the picture, it forces me to work on techniques that apply when I put color back in.
So this is sort of like an artistic study piece where I limit myself to study new things, and to practice things that will make my color pictures work a lot better.
