It's about as easy as finding a needle in a haystack.

I went back to the street where I ran into her, and nothing. I decided to double back to the place where the river overflows into the city to look for tracks, and nothing. Street after street, block after block, and I am even waving a flashlight around like an idiot hoping to get noticed.

And nothing.

It's hard to not feel depressed by this all. You would think that humanity would survive, that the human spirit would be enough to overcome anything, yet here I am, and here nobody else is. Nothing. Nobody. Pile after pile of garbage, and buildings falling into the water from decay and rot. I would scream, but nobody would hear me.

I will be out here until it gets dark, my air goes critical, or my flashlight dies. I will need to get back before nightfall.

It's too dangerous to stay out after dark.
