Description A tough one, just because I had to hand-roll a lot of the materials (not a DAZ figure so there isn't an easy way to convert and tweak). Still, cool, and it is fun to see some of the Unit 1721 characters like this.

I need to get back to that one soon, too much fun to work on.

It is well done. Kinda like a cross between Superman as Clark Kent doing an "impression" of Bruce Wayne as Batman. What did you use to do the converion of the textures to Iray?

Thanks, I did these by hand, copying an iRay figure's settings that had the look I wanted, but keeping the original figure's textures (over an iRay base shader).

Thanks for the reply! I'll have to try that and see how it works... the Poser figures are much simpler texture-wise than Daz figures... I imagine once you get it done in DS that it will be easier to copy to the other Poser G1 / G2 figures since their only difference is the shading of the texture. [I have all of the Poser figures from Poser 3 through Poser Pro 11]. I don't expect the newer ones will work in DS.

No problem! Yes, the Poser figures have a lot fewer material zones so I could pull this off without going crazy. I am tempted to load up two of him next time, convert one to iRay, and use the copy to pull just what I need from (copy textures). Studio didn't import things like bump and spec maps (for some reason), so I had to go hunting for those.

The tie and cotton shirt are 100% iRay materials. The jacket I kept the original texture but I put it over an iRay base as the diffuse (and I had to create a bump map). The glasses are really thick, almost like magnifying glasses, so I would probably use another next time or knock down the refraction.

Conversions are fun and I find they teach me a lot about things I wouldn't touch with off-the-shelf newer sets. I love the problem solving.

Hmmm... there should be an easier way...
Save the material set-ujp on your converted skin texture...
Import Koji, Kelvin, or Simon.
Apply the James material.
Open the surfaces tab and go hunting the poser textures for those characters

OR

save the material from James uncompressed [Daz saves by defajult as a compressed zip file]
Use a text editor with "search and replace"  and manually edit the material file to point to the correct skin texture.
Save the resulting file with a different name with the proper DS file extension, say "Koji-Iray.duf"
make a copy of the james png thumbnail with the new materials name. Say, "Koji-Iray.png"
Apply this new material file to the figure you are working on and tweak it til satisfied
save it again which will give you a matching thumbnail.

You might also want to check-out the tutorial I posted on "how to" throttle Daz Studio to use less cores if you have other things to do besides just rendering.  Tutorial: Set CPU Priority in Daz Studio . Poser allows you to set the number of threads it will use [It's on the last tab of the property settings]. DS does not... so you have to use the OS to force DS to use less CPUs by lowering DSes priority.

Agreed, once you get one G2 material setup future ones will be easier.

Thanks, I will check that out. always cool to share tips

Thank you, I love the simple pieces, almost movie-poster like. I love the "demon side" and the total void of his face.
