Description
Rada still seems a bit...I dunno...something, but it is not affecting her modelling and Ana still assure me everything is cool, so I'll let sleeping dogs lie.Inspired in part by a recent image by Surreal-Muse and in part something from my idea backlog.
Ran it off on my remote box, as I am taking a couple of days off from 3d stuff to reset. May get that Ilath pic done tonight if it behaves, or give the local machine a good rest.

Damn! She looks almost like the frontwoman of russian alternative band "Slot"!Β i89.beon.ru/7/1/810107/81/2265β¦
Nice work!

She does a bit yes. You know, she was designed to be Russian, that is what her "character" is, so that is one great confirmation that I at least got that part right.
Cheers!

Thanks. Really tricky to set up, but when it was done, worked fantastically.

To paraphrase a bumper sticker (and I'm sure many other sources) "Anything worth doing is worth doing right."Β And doing things right usually involves quite a bit of effort (or in my case luck... )

Thanks
Yeah I have seen a few great photo's done like this, and had the idea for a while just needed to channel the retired photographer in me, a lot of editing to the scenes built in lighting to allow the main sunlight to do all the work and drop the rest into shadow, but one of my fav images now.
That teddy is great product for falling off the model, very simple morphs and let dForce do the rest.

Most welcome, i am happy you were inspired.
Now i need some inspiration myself, the posts on my first cycles render have me feeling like i shouldnt continue..i realize you have to take with a grain of salt what people say..but this one hit me hard.

Well that's cool.
As for the other matter, hard to take such harsh criticism from someone who has not displayed any kind of expertise in what they are actually talking about. Has a lot of advice about being an artist, but yet openly claims they are not an artist...put your money where your mouth is so to speak.
So 'grain of salt' looking more like the Dead Sea on that one.
I would not take any of it it to heart, yeah there were some fair criticisms but you already knew those issues yourself. And learning a new render method (cycles can be crazy) is tough. I use blender to model and sculpt, but any attempt to send a Iray scene to it for me has not looked good.
Far far easier said than done I know......
I don't really have much advice, I know you have been feeling off about your work of late as it stands, there can be such as thing as too much advice, and it seems you have tried to hit the big red 'experiment' button by playing in Blender to try and move past it. That stuff always comes out wonky on early attempts and can be further disheartening, but I commend you on it and would like to see you push forward, try a few things, more experiments in Daz, Blender or whatever, play around with some crazy lighting set ups or something.

The sculpting seems fun and actually it is...the material nodes makes my head hurt however. As for Daz scenes in blender the real problem is that Iray shaders are not PBR equivalent in Blender cycles. so they dont transfer properly. 3dl shaders however seem to transfer fine because Blender has an similar shader architecture. But even that is tough since Cycles now has the "Disciplined shader" which is just 1 node for all PBR stuff to plug into so i need to learn more about stuff like that.
The modeling stuff seems like if you learn how and the shortcuts for things it is pretty self explanatory.

I've done traditional sculpting and the best part of character design for me is getting the base Gen 8 into Blender and going to town with it. I'd love Zbrush as well for that reason, but just haven't gotten around to purchasing due to Blender having the tools I need (to date)
Cycles...yeah....not used it a lot, tried a few conversions a few months back to see how it all swapped over. So far just not had the time to really learn the way it works.
2.8 alpha is out though, and has EEVEE but I don't believe we'll see any kind of Iray to EEVEE converter anytime soon, but it may be a better option.
Sending scenes out of Iray still seems to work best with things like Octane, but that has a significant cost to it.
I've been doing some online study with modelling etc in Blender, just been time poor so far with illness and injury this year, so its all on the back burner for now. It is very shortcut reliant though. I'd love to be able to afford to get Lightwave again (had access to a version years ago) and it still remains my fave interface and modelling software.

Thanks very much. Had to kill a lot of the included lighting built into the scene/prop to get the background nice and shadowed, to get the effect I wanted. Very happy with it.
