Sarah was the person Amery chose to grace with his presence during this part of the trail. She was thrilled, he was sure, and they are totally now best buddies.

The trial was going great so far! Of course it was bloody freezing, and comfort was a distant concept. And he missed lazing around in instagram…and microwave meals…and literally everything good about modern society. But other than that was enjoying it.

The weather wasnt too awful, and his borrowed horse, Never, was a sweetheart. She had been behaving perfectly so far, well as perfect as any horse could be. There were a few moments she was unsure about what she was seeing. A particular scary tractor or angry looking bovine for example, but she took it in her stride.

He knew if he was on his own beloved mare, the offending characters would have had a less pleasant interaction with them. Would she have tried to bite the tractor? Perhaps…..

During this part of the phase everyone was so close together, he introduced himself to everyone fortunate to match his pace during the week. A particular favourite was a blonde woman, Sarah, on a pretty spotted horse. She seemed a bit quiet, maybe a bit shy? Or nervous about the event, she eventually trailed off and stopped responding to his conversation so much. But that was alright with him, more time for him to get his word in.

They unfortunately eventually had to part ways when he found himself needing a break from the saddle. He spent most of his day at his stables usually, maybe half of that would be riding on busy days, but a whole day in the saddle? Followed by another whole day in the saddle? His butt hurt.
