Description This is a another symbolic portrait, this time of my uncle. Done in Prismas again and it took roughly two weeks of compiled free time. The picture turned out very light after it was scaned so I put a poster edge filter on it in order to darkern the edges back up for presentation purposes. Nothing else is changed.

Nice amount of detail in this picture. And I love the hindquarters, they're quite nicely done.

Damn, that's awesome. And there's no such thing as too much detail - the background is excellent as is the mystical beast. Fine detail is a testament to patience - a virtue that I myself lack in. Might I ask about the symbolism in the piece? Other artists' thought processes interest me.

It's a symbolic portrait of my uncle. He likes science (the pi shaped stone henge courtyard there) celtic things (the spirals and the stone henge), the green man (that face in the top left), Griffens are his family crest along with the stag so I combined them along with the foresty feathers. The statue is aquarious since he is one and he has a thing for roman buildings so I had temple there as well. the setting is a forest since his favorite color is green and he likes woods and glades and locals of that nature.

Thank you .

I'm really impressed with the amount of thought you put into this. I'll have to take a good look at the rest of your gallery soon.

This is stylish! I love how complete this piece feels. There is a lot of detail but the main character really pops out. Cool pen and colored pencil work. Awesome tribute to your uncle!

What a wonderfully colored picture! Unlike me, you have the patience to spend time on one piece. It turned out very nice.

lol, I used to whip out pictures like a mad man but they all had rushed coloring jobs. Now that I'm in college, I have to take time with things and they turn out a lot better. Being a gift and all, it was mandatory to go all the way with this one. I learned not to do a final piece in one sitting, you drain your muse too fast that way. Thanks for the fave !

Thanks, the bird thingy is a griffin with some stag mixed in, a friend of mine actually said it had too much detail .

Thanks a bunch, don't be so hard on yourself. Your style is more elegant than mine, besides, some things look better simply symbolic anyway .

You need to use that filter more often Ren, you're getting pretty damn good. Keep on doing it man!

RenDragonClaw In reply to iontom [2006-03-08 19:19:13 +0000 UTC]

I remember there being some other way to make pencil lines darker and all that but I have no idea how they do it and I can't find the darken image option so I just used a filter that looked good. *sigh* I still feel cheap using it though .

Very awsome picture. I like it a lot. The Griffen creature with the antlers is very nice, and the ruins look very nice too, very celtic like. Great pic.
