Abilities:
Vanishing Island- Hydrune's most notable attribute is the massive collection of Vitafrux altered coral that grows to mammoth proportions all across his back with an equally massive kelp forest down his tail. This coral is a symbiotic system that both protects and takes nourishment from Hydrune, effectively an entire reef ecosystem that has grown with him since he became a fully fledged kaiju. His massive size, even in comparison to said kaiju, gives the illusion of a living aquatic reef that periodically moves. During the rare times Hydrune surfaces he appears to be an island. This periodic migration and truly titanic amount of consolidated Vitafrux, interfering with typical means of location, allows Hydrune to move throughout the Pacific and the other world's oceans with hardly anyone noticing unless they spot him directly.
Living Battleship- The coral on Hydrune's body does more than act as natural camouflage. The primary types of coral each have specific attributes and each contributes something to Hydrune that makes him even more daunting of a target:
Ripple Dome - Large brain like yellow domes. Act as border markers and keep the coral from growing too massive or cumbersome. Primary offensive function is to produce turret like volleys of powerful kinetic stings generated from the trademark 'ripple' their grooves create when agitated.
Plateau Coral- Reddish with sporadic blue polyps, these cliff sized plates provide a common refuge for many of the unique species that call Hydrune home and act as armor for his shoulders, elbows and sides. Being jagged and fragmented, it creates a formidable buttress of agony for those on the receiving end of a body slam.
Titan Branch Β Coral- Blue antler shaped coral the size of trees, occasionally changes to swells of reddish purple and light blue. While also a habitat for aquatic fauna, Titan Branch is the fastest growing type of coral on Hydrune and reacts to be fragmented with surprising speed by growing and piercing whatever has assaulted it. This can leave debilitating wounds on those who managed to get pieces of this coral lodged in their body.
Adaman Pillar Coral- The foundation of the reef, Adaman Pillar actually grows in reverse from other coral, soft on the inside, hard on the outside. Layers calcifying and being pushed outward as it expands and grows. Slowest to grow (in comparison) but most resilient, the Adaman Pillars dotting Hydrune's spine are akin to mountains and protect him from assault from above. Lesser corals tend to embed themselves into the substrate of the Adaman Pillars, leading the normally pale grey spires to 'bloom' on occasion. It's strength lies in how dense and difficult to crush it is, rivaling the most formidable alloys and natural armor of other kaiju and weaponry.
Atlantis Kelp- Covering the entire length Hydrune's tail, this dense aquatic forest of larger than life kelp provides further sanctuary for the denizens of the reef and provides a slippery and entangling defense for his primary form of locomotion.
Aegis Barnacle- frequently encountered near the front of the head across the flippers and on the fluke, the Aegis Barnacles are rather omnivorous barnacles that make 'boarding' Hydrune for smaller life forms rife with peril as they indiscriminate as to what they attempt to ensnare and clamp down on like giant stubbornly tenacious bear traps. They also spit shots of pressurized water at things actively trying to break them.
The Reef Has Eyes- The coral, while specific and unique in function is largely defensive or counter defensive in nature. The various species that live on Hydrune however are quick to defend their home from interlopers. Ranging from the herds of 'dragon seahorse' like Hippocampi to the small but relentlessly fierce fanged puffer fish known as the Briar Tooth, the reef is swarming with both exotically unique and usual reef species. Many of these make attacking Hydrune directly extremely perilous as in the Darwinian arms race that is life within the Vitafrux Reef, territorialism and aggression ebbs and flows to varying extremes. One species might retreat while another surges suddenly to attack while a third opportunistically interferes. These various life forms are all dangerous to an extent but it's when the entire reef begins to swarm out in defense of their home that it feels like every living thing in the water is trying to kill you. Against other kaiju these various creatures will seek out any vulnerable parts they can reach should a hostile kaiju come in contact with the reef. While likely to be mere annoyances for some, they can quickly become an equalizing force when brought to bear against kaiju with their own sort of personal army. Against conventional naval forces these creatures are an absolute nightmare.
Strength of the Ocean- Hydrune is big...really, really big. There are few kaiju on earth that can equal Hydrune in terms of pure size; so far he is the longest kaiju and largest aquatic kaiju, even outstripping Dryton in this regard. With this size comes a truly herculean level of strength and in terms of kinetic force, Hydrune is a juggernaut capable of demolishing enemies and leveling entire coast lines. Having actual arms, Hydrune is more capable of slamming and smashing opponents than a modern whale. The thick and sturdy claws at the end of each 'flipper' can leave deep rends and act much like toothy battle axes in terms of the cleaving force they can exert. Also of note are the asymmetrical tusks the ancient whale possesses. While one is a short, broken ram that has been slow to heal from eons of abuse and its initial desiccated fracturing , the other is a spiral spear that can penetrate most terrestrial obstacles. This adds onto the already considerably stout head that serves as a heavily anchored bludgeon. While not truly having a ferocious set of dental weaponry, Hydrune possesses both Mysticeti and Odontoceti features and thus has strong but stout fangs made for pinning and crushing more than tearing. Hydrune's size makes a bite from him a formidably powerful vice. The sheer size and force exerted by his tail can break smaller kaiju nearly in half if not knock them unconscious in a single blow. And god forbid one find themselves under him when he manages to 'surf' over them and bring the entirety of his hundred thousand plus ton weight upon them. While not the most elegant of combatants by a long shot, Hydrune is intuitive and perceptive to changes in the flow of battle and readily flows in time with what he's facing. Hydrune is aware of the advantages and limitations his size imposes on him and takes that into account when in battle, as well as support of the reef that grows upon his body. In the water Hydrune can move faster than most expect and combined with his mass can lead to a lot of pain quickly. The whale is an intelligent opponent, quickly learning what does and doesn't work in a given situation. The second encounter with the whale rarely goes the same way as the first.
Hydrokinesis - In short, due to Hydrune's guardianship of the world's oceans and the kitchen sink of aquatic Vitafrux sources that ultimately created him, he has the ability to mentally manipulate water. Hydrune's control over the element is nearly limitless within his perceptive range, a range which is usually a mile and a half in every direction. The closer one is to Hydrune the more extreme these manipulations can be. Altering the shape, pressure, speed, flow and to some extent the temperature of water is all within Hydrune's ability. Ebb and flow, surge or sink, titanic tidal waves or deceptive undertow, all of these states come naturally to Hydrune and often a combination of these occurs whilst in battle. Hydrune can't turn water to ice or water to vapor or steam; he can however turn either of the latter back into water. He can also draw water from the ground or the environment if he needs to. Fresh or salt doesn't matter so long as it's wet. Hydrune has very limited impact on water inside living things due to the minerals and other factors, though Hydrune can cause substantial amounts of discomfort, nausea and other imbalances through direct physical contact by 'jostling' those same fluids. The most notable way Hydrune uses this ability is to aid in his mobility. Hydrune may form a sphere around himself and use it traverse areas that he normally would have to beach himself and crawl onto land to reach. This massive water dome can act as a devastating wrecking ball, allowing Hydrune to plough straight through buildings and offending trappings of civilization so long as it's near the sea. No bay side or coastal city is safe if Hydrune deems it in need of a good flooding. Hydrune can also form other aquatic phenomena such as whirlpools, waterspouts, tsunamis etc. More exotic manifestations such as large tendrils of water, floating 'cannon shot', towering walls of 'parted' water and even facsimile manifestations of other aquatic life that strangely resembles aquatic kaiju from The Great Trials can occur as well for more slippery foes. Hydrune's Hydrokinesis is empowered the closer the moon is to a full moon, the gravitational forces making the oceans a hotbed of kinetic force.
War Song - Hydrune's most powerful ability, a complex loop of vocalizations that are both impossibly loud and imperceptibly quiet so long as the target is inside a body of water. Water amplifies the sound and thus the effect on the target. The attack is a resonance that disrupts all bodily functions both inside and out, paralyzing them. Being a primarily sonic effect, it also disrupts all forms of sonar and similar wavelength utility used by aquatic life. It also amplifies the effects of Hydrune's hydrokinesis, allowing him to apply tremendous pressure on his target, similar to what happens when someone gets the bends and doesn't decompress properly. At its greatest extent, the War Song can cause the insides of a target to violently explode from the pressure, for much tougher targets such as kaiju, due to being made of tougher materials in most cases, it's often a case of internal hemorrhaging conflicting with the natural regeneration and causing countless debilitating problems. If the War Song is allowed to continue it can incapacitate any kaiju vulnerable that can hear, cause near terminal injury in kaiju sensitive to sound and stun kaiju that cannot or do not hear so long as they are in the water. The effects of the song are strongest directly next to Hydrune and decrease the further away the target is.
Weaknesses:
Load of Lard- Hydrune's size can be as much of a curse as it is a blessing. Faster and quicker kaiju and enemies can feasibly run or even swim circles around him if he doesn't take care to immobilize them or control the battlefield accordingly. His great size also makes it harder for him to recognize when something much smaller than him is actually attacking him, leaving a majority of such concerns to the denizens of the reef before he turns his attention to the matter himself. Reaching a high rate of speed isn't difficult but changing direction is.
Water Bound- Hydrune's massive size is possible largely because his habitat is the largest biome on the planet and the lax restrictions on living things existing in water. Even for kaiju these things are at least notable concern. Being a creature entirely devoted to aquatic life, Hydrune has learned the hard way that staying in the water is best. While Hydrune can manage a decent crawl on land, he is laughably slow and bereft of much of his arsenal. This is why when Hydrune does venture inland, its via a giant rolling ball of water. Being beached for too long would probably drive Hydrune into a coma, his higher body functions unable to sustain themselves under the increased weight and dryness. The denizens of the reef likewise are largely helpless out of water, needing Hydrune to be at least mostly submerged to be effective and of use.
Unpredictable as the Tides- Hydrune is normally a fairly calm, collected, compassionate creature. Hydrune however has a reputation for being 'fickle' in that Hydrune's personal priorities sometimes conflict or find little purchase in the affairs of his fellow Guardians or humanity for that matter. He is easy to placate but just as easy to anger. Further difficulties arise in the face of things Hydrune is deeply connected or attached to as threatening or long term harm to these things can drive the whale to great extremes of anger and destruction. Collateral damage is of little consequence when Hydrune is on the war path so long as the offense has been rectified in the aftermath. This can lead Hydrune to rashly charging into a situation that could cause more problems than it solves and thus causing his fellow Guardians to try and stop him or being duped into going into a fight he can't win. If allowed to think and regain his composure Hydrune can often be talked down but when in the midst of a rage is blind to reason.
Motive:
Hydrune is the Guardian of the Ocean and takes that responsibility personally and with a great deal of seriousness. One does not take on a task that requires fighting Dryton to prove one's self as anything less than reverent. Unlike the dispassionate Oakenrack, Hydrune is protective of all living things in the ocean and the very ocean itself. Seeing the entire biome as a sort of 'family' the creature never truly had before becoming a kaiju. In this capacity Hydrune is utterly devoted to the ocean's wellbeing and while often tranquil on the surface has a great deal of passion for promoting continued life and prosperity in the ocean. This passion has often lead to Hydrune both making compassionate gestures to mankind and cataclysmic disasters when enraged. There is likely no other kaiju that has such a see-saw of a relationship with humanity as Hydrune does. To Hydrune, ignorance is no excuse for the cruelty and defilement of his charge and upon awakening into the modern era the whale was extremely displeased at the state of the world's oceans; especially the fate of many of his lesser children who had succumbed to the whaling industry. This lead Hydrune to rage up and down the Pacific with the intent to scouring any manmade vessel from the water and devastating several major coastal cities before finally being reined in by a combined effort of Nature Guardians and Apocalypse Bringers. Having made his point, Hydrune has settled into being more of a cautionary warning to some and a marvel of aquatic diversity to others. Talulla Spheeris, his current KCELL and popular singer is one of the few humans that Hydrune actively responds to, having wary indifference of humans otherwise. Talulla often advocates for Hydrune and the ocean in general in her material, hoping to raise awareness of ocean's fragile condition before Hydrune's now notorious temper is set off again. Having made such a big 'splash', opinions vary wildly about the ancient whale. Most naval authorities and the fishing and whaling industries would love for Hydrune to be destroyed as he's demonstrated both a capability to wipe out an entire armada and cripple such industries on a whim. A literal threat to both national security and the economy. Others naively hope to document the still elusive kaiju and those that have managed to get close are often unprepared for the other denizens of the reef who resent being disturbed. Being in the ocean a majority of the time, Hydrune has actually little contact with many other kaiju. He has something of a certain rivalry/respect for Oakenrack, one of the few kaiju that can meet him move for move. For his part Oakenrack likewise respects Hydrune's dedication to protecting his chosen aspect of Gaia. Rainsha tries to work with him as best she can and minimize the damage he causes unless its warranted. Not an easy feat considering how widely he travels. Duskizen doesn't appreciate the mass collateral damage Hydrune causes nor the seemingly opulent blessings he gave in the past, feeling that either is wasteful and ultimately a distraction he can't afford. The two avoid each other as Duskizen's amoral planning and Hydrune's passionate guardianship tend to conflict more than not. Lunami and Raifu the ones that work with and perhaps understand Hydrune the most. Lunami in particular having a harmonious synchronization with the whale due to her guardianship of the moon. Raifu respects Hydrune's power as a Guardian and the two have been known to spar on occasion, resulting in tumultuous weather patterns, keeping them both sharp. Β Among the Apocalypse Bringers Hydrune fears and respects Dryton the most, a creature that took two other potential guardians alongside himself to even survive. His guardianship has done little to alleviate these feelings towards the shark. Shimaku is among the kaiju that halted his rampage and while initially the snake was hard pressed to do anything to the whale, his tactics and skill ultimately engineered the whale's defeat and thus Hydrune has something of an tactical rivalry with the Death Coil as Hydrune was not in a clear state of mind when he faced him, the whale is thus somewhat eager for a rematch. Beelzebub isn't much of a concern outside of his toxicity, the fly finds most affairs concerning the whale great spectacle but little in the way motivation to participate. Marez is a different story as the wolf's blood based powers are diluted in water and his comparably smaller body is hardly a match for the colossus on an even playing field. The wolf is hard pressed to admit it but he is legitimately terrified of Hydrune and the whale knows this. While they have little contact, Hydrune's support of Raifu only exacerbates the tremendous rivalry between the tiger and wolf as the tiger has free reign over the open sky across the oceans while wolf must gingerly test and fight for every attempt to cross landmasses thanks to Hydrune's interference.

Long time in coming but here's Hydrune. So much work. So many colors. So much tiny shit to make colorful. I don't care about Valentines Day so have a whale.
Next kaiju will probably be Lunami.

Yep, this one took awhile. Probably more than usual thanks to the tutorial I was using.
There could probably be some peeking Adaman Pillar poking out of the kelp before it becomes totally kelp true. Wish I'd thought of that earlier lol. But yeah, his resemblance to Jhen is now superficial at best. The water effects took some time to figure out how to go about it. I had brushes but they didn't stay consistent in direction. So I ultimately had to just brush it in. It's also got more vibrant and directionally contrasting feel in relation to Dryton's Stat pic.

Yes, yes yes. All of my yes.
Wow, I can really see just how much a pain in the ass this must of been for you Ren, but on the upside he is finally done at least and he is amazing.
The only thing I could ever want is to see him 'hamsterballing' his way through a city so I can laugh myself into a coma.

Great, now I'm picturing the Kcell kaiju teaming up to slingshot a hamster balled Hydrune into an enemy.
Invincithrone: Foul beasts, prepare to meet your-
*Heavenly Fang Kaiju roundcorner to see Hydrune loaded into a a silk and wood slingshot made by Oakenrack and Duskizen, held up by Lunamis' power, being pulled back by every other kaiju.*
Judahtitan:... Uh oh.
Beelzebub: THIS WHALE EMPTY!!!
*All release grip*
Beelzebub: YEET!!!

Someone should make a short gag comic regarding that lol.
But yeah, even Hydrune has a way of dealing with land based battles so long as they are near water. If he doesn't just bring the entire ocean to his opponent first by flooding the area.

Blake might be up for it, I'll mention it next time he streams.
You know, considering the amount of water most cities need to pump in, as long as he was near a large enough one he could just draw any needed water from the pipes. Maybe not a long term strategy but if he was cornered and needed to boost his water-ball or just aid him in getting back to a real source of water. The ability to control water is kinda laughable until you realize just how much is around us at any given time and what it can do in terms of raw damage.

Water is both the weakest and strongest of elements. Because where the others falter, water always finds a way.
