Random question, how long did it take you to learn how to do fight animations/how did you learn it?

this is actually one of the first times i've really done a fight animation... it's certainly the longest one i've done so far. the only other practices i've done before are here: k40rin.deviantart.com/art/Figh… k40rin.deviantart.com/art/Comb… k40rin.deviantart.com/art/Cats…
so i'd say, i don't actually know how long it took me, because i'm still SUPER new to animating fight scenes :0
When i was very young (maybe 10 or 11?) i discovered and i've been wishing ever since then that i could one day emulate his fight choreography :'D in one of his old journals he talks about studying fight scenes from anime like Soul Eater, which i also watched as a kid
more recently though I've been inspired by/have studied 's animations and... believe it or not, stickman fight animations. i absolutely LOVE stickmen animations! this video is one of my biggest inspirations for fight scenes www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvyPoN… ; and the stickman animation community Hyun's Dojo has taught me SO MUCH about animating fight scenes (and doing effects!) from just watching their videos over and over and going through their Flash files
i did a practice fight scene with stickmen too, and trust me, it's really helpful to just focus on character body-language, action poses and movement when you don't have to draw a detailed character! k40rin.deviantart.com/art/Figh…
EDIT: oh crap, i forgot - i also LOVED SSS Warrior Cats episodes as a kid and even while making this animation, i was thinking about how the fight scenes looked in those animations ^^

Sorry for the very late reply, I've been meaning to reply but I didn't want to come back with a weak comment.
I can definitely see that you were a bit inspired by Ryanide's style in Combat Control (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). Honestly I don't know how that man does it, being able to allocate and stick with projects, I'd probably give in after a few frames. His point of studying fight scenes from already published animations sounds interesting.
Ah, Hyun's Dogo, I think I've seen that video before, those people blow my mind as well- how creative they can get with characters who have very minimal designs, and the movements they pull off. I've tried doing stickman stuff before but I've never been able to get around to sticking with it (pardon the pun). I usually set the end goal high. That animation you've done looks interesting, ever plan on finishing it one day?
It's been quite some time since I watched SSS Warrior Cats myself, but I remember watching them for sure.

The fightscenes I've just started to try to animate involve human characters (in an anime like style) using fist-to-fist combat, and considering I've never actually been in a fight myself and haven't seen much aside from anime and independent artist's works, I guess I'll just have to study anatomy and those scenes a bit. The stickmen can definitely help with posing. This is the closest I've gotten so far, and I really need to pick up the slack and start to work on it more (I have too many projects I want to work on). warning, rather large file
