Description
This is the mysterious Mayuri painting I never really said much about.I like it.
I'm thinking maybe one day I'll make a print of it. That'd be cool. This pic went through a lot of stages, but I think that's a good thing.
Did the digital painting with a bigger focus on learning lighting. Lighting is such an important element and I need to experiment with it more. I rarely even give it much consideration and that's why I'm not as happy with things as a result. I think this went fairly good. Yay woot.
Thanks to who helped me with this loads and whose Bleach prints were a big inspiration.

This is gorgeous. I really like the color and swirl of the purple surrounding him. Mayuri never gets enough love.

But like you, I seem to like the more unpopular characters...
Mainly because the more unpopular ones are more insane... And Mayuri is missing a whole lot of sanity.

Incredible work! Those lights are superb, but what draws my attention is the shading on the clothes.
I'm also very fond of the hands. The left hand pose looks quite difficult to draw.
And congrats for the DD! I'm pleasantly surprised that a fanart picture would get one - even if it is really good. : )

The hands were very challenging. Even when I referenced myself I had to get a lot of critiques on them just to make them look half way decent.
Thank you for the congrats! I still find it amusing a fanart can get a DD [with their being so much of it!] and like you said. I think it is insanely funny, the other DD I got was for another Mayuri thing I made. I mean what are the odds.

Why thank you! I tend to gravitate towards the more unpopular characters in any series. It's strange, but in a way it feels more rewarding. It's like that saying goes, You don't want to follow the herd because you'll end up stepping in poo.

I love this picture! I, oddly enough, love mayuri without his mask... but with it + the fact that his sword is.. guarding his treasures [which i'm not sure are even there.. he is really weird], he's really creepy.

I prefer him without the mask mainly because he looks a lot like Urahara. And, i love Urahara.

I've always wondered why he had his sword there. I believe he explained it once but i probably got creeped out. Its weird seeing a guy with a clown-mask reach for his 'treasures' just to pull out a sword that turns into a zombie-fied baby... :/

The lighting in this one actually seems pretty dull to me. He looks to be lit directly from the front, with some edgelighting. The occasional shadows you have are nice, but if you want your stuff to have more dynamic lighting try doing stark, chiaroscuro type stuff, or maybe going into uplighting.

Just wanted to let you know that selling prints of this would actually be illegal, since the character is copywrited. I'm not saying you can't get away with it. It just depends on whether the owners of Bleach decide to take action.
