Ho snap, something original!This is actually another one of my experiments. Trying to learn to paint better. Looks alright I guess, though I got frustrated with the buckles that I just gave up on them. The hair took the longest since I did it in a way my computer couldn't handle. XD
She's visiting a spirit, or something like that.
I am very aware of her poor clothing choice for the ice caps. This was originally intended to be a piece based around fire, but somehow........ended in the opposite.
Ah well, onto the next practice piece.

Seriously, this is really impressive. First off, the design of the subject really shows that you can stand on your own as far as original character design goes. The practicality of the outfit notwithstanding, I like the overall look as well as the amount of detail in the folds and on the metallic parts of it as well. I'm in love with her hair for some reason, too. 
The overall setting and how you used it is what I really like here--the subject's body language and the rosy cheeks definitely show that she's feeling the chill factor here, and I really like how the lighting was done--not a total contrast of light and dark like on a sunny day, but that rather neutral lighting that comes with a cloudy, snowy day, with the only major lighting coming from the spirit, and that's used only where needed.
I'd say things are definitely looking promising for you--I like where you're going with this, and look forward to seeing more.

Ahhhh you mentioned the cloud coverage lighting thing.
That is probably the one thing I am most happy about with this, that I got the background to actually work with it!
The hair has the most time logged. It was ridiculous. I was working on it with my dimensions like 3000px by 3000px. My computer wanted to kill me. >_<

But yeah, its an awesome piece, Ren. I like it, regardless of your difficulty in making it. For an experiment on painting better, you've done a really good job of it. ^^

The only reason I added the spirit, is because otherwise.........imagine the picture without it there. She'd be holding onto nothing!!!

what soft did you use??? it looks so good! I love the colours you used, the atmosphere is really well rendered, cold indeed (even if it should have been fire...). I think she's got cool clothes, now just say she's in the middle of any RPG and it'll look absolutly normal to go hanging around the ice caps with that outfit (maybe she'll be a little to hot? XD)
oh, and there's a bg, and it looks nice, that's cool!!!

I used Photoshop 7. I have no idea if any of this would have been easier if I had used a different program. Maybe.

I really should draw more originals... I do draw original art from time to time but don't really upload onto dA, in fact, I've hardly updated dA with any of my recent drawings xD;
Looking lovely here, even though the choice of clothing looks rather chilly it's painted well with lovely styles on the hair
