*screams* YOU DID THIS ON A BROWN PAPER BAG? Sorry to yell, but you're just amazing! I love the rosy color of the girl's dress, and the folds in the cloth... the leaves are beautiful too, and the boughs, all the details in the bark are wonderful. The smatterings of gold are gorgeous. The girl's skintones are nice, too. ^^ She looks really soft, like real flesh.

If I had to pick a fault, I'd say the girl's head could probably change... It might just be me, but I think it'd look better smaller... and if she's looking sideways, her cheekbones should curve outwards more... from under her eye area? I'd also go for a more definite chin

yep, her head was really wacko. You just reminded me that I actually redid this piece on a larger scale back in the fall. In the newer painting, she is a completely different girl with better proportions and all. Maybe that is why I don't like it as much. She looks older and the magic is gone, so I never posted it.. maybe I will now. And thank you for such a nice comment, you really made my coffeetime this morning extra special

I think this is beautiful just as it is. I love the idea of a little girl being in an apple tree, and the rest of the world around her is surreal, just like her imagination.

The detailing is beautiful; I quite honestly can't find a part of this picture not to absolutely adore. I love the whiteness of the tree branch and its many intricate knarls and knots. I love the leaves, finely vined and tinged with gold. I love everything about the girl- the way her dress and hair hangs, her unsure posture and face, as though she's not sure she's the princess or else not sure how to get down. You do her skin tone marvelously, as well as the little flush in her cheeks. And the tiny flecks everywhere make it feel even more magical.

And the fact that you drew it on a crumpled paper lunch bag gives you cool points for life. I could easily see this drawing in a book of children's stories, the kind that's read over and over until the stories and pictures are memorized.

Oh, right, critique. Um... heh heh. I can't find anything to critique! I'm not a visual artist by any means, but I know when I love something and I love this. Fabulous job!

Thanks my goal right now is to strengthen my art skills to a point where I can illustrate childrens books! That would be my dream job and it's nice that you thought it looked like a childrens illustration. I know I must be headed in the right direction
and I'm glad to get cool points!!! Thank you so much for such a touching comment

Ok, I'm only saying this because you asked, and after staring at the picture for some time trying to find something you could improve: I think her face and head are a little disproportionate with her body; it makes her look older than she probably is. Maybe with a rounder face and slightly larger eyes you could fix that. But really, that's nothing to worry about, I loved this pic. XD The tree looks absolutely fantastic; I really envy your inking skills and also I find it highly original that you used lunch paper for such a fine piece!! XD

Great tree, love those details and if I could make you to change sth, I'd ask for more details on the princess's dress, to make it look a bit more like tree, all those little branches and so on But please don't change your way of using colours

Somebody gave me that name a couple weeks ago. And I've been in love with his art ever since.

I'd like to think that I arrived where I am (art-wise) due to my own personal style and taste in artwork. But seeing other artists styles have helped my refine it, I think. I try not to become too influenced by other artists ( so as not to look like I'm copying somebody's style ) but I think it still comes through in my artwork whether I like it or not. So yes, I guess I am. And thank you for the nice comment.

Hyruliansage [2007-07-05 03:17:44 +0000 UTC]

wow! That's pretty ingenious...I never would have thought to use a brown paper lunch bag as a canvas!

As for suggestions, the girl's left arm...her left...seems a bit out of proportion. The upper arm and lower arm appear to be different lengths. Her legs also seem to be different widths. They're both perfectly proportional, but they're different sizes from each other. And finally, with the girl's face, I think her eyes are a little too far apart and the lips should be closer to the bottom of her nose.

The background is perfect though!! And this is a gorgeous piece! I love your use of subtle colours.

Wow!

I love the tree...and the way the bag looks...and the abscence of background...and pretty much everything! Just amazing.

...My only problem is the little girl's face, it looks...older than a child's face, I'm not quite sure why, but it does.

I still absolutely love this. !

Thank you!!
and her face does seem to be a problem, I can't draw faces! I think it looks older because her mouth is too far down and her eyes aren't big enough? I don't know, I will try to fix it. thank you!!

Gwenm [2007-07-04 22:24:05 +0000 UTC]

I think the girl's eyes are bit small for a child. Overall I really like this piece, though.

cockrocket [2007-07-04 22:21:40 +0000 UTC]

I absolutely love the way you did the tree! All those little branches with golden leaves... everything looks amazing. Im not too sure if I like the sky in the background... I think since the paper is crumpled, you don't need to add too much more to activate the empty spaces above and below the tree. Either way I think this is beautiful. You've got a great hand!
And can I ask, why did you chose to do this on crumpled paper?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Reowyn In reply to cockrocket [2007-07-04 22:32:18 +0000 UTC]

I like your idea about leaving the background alone, because I really don't like the sky either XD I wish I wouldn't have done that.

and crumpled paper? I have no idea why. .......Actually, I know. I wanted to use a brown paper bag but it had all of the fold lines still in it. So I crumpled to hide them a bit. yeah, that's it
Thank you for your comment and suggestion :]

Ooo, that is wonderful!! the only thing i would change wold be the little girl's face, it is very cute without any doubt but the nose is just a little flat. I would say tilt the nose a little up. The guestures of the little girl are excelent and the bark on the tree is so cool! The detail on the leaves is awesome as well. i hope i didn't make you mad i really think its a brilliant piece! Great work!
