This is a piece from my short-lived stone wear ( I mean STONEWARE, gad, I KNOW how to spell that!)...ceramic period, before Windstone. This was the one piece that never sold, from a show I did in a friend's gift shop.Related content

Β Maybe because it is weird looking... not everybody likes mashup animals.
But, the funny thing is , two years after the show ended, a lady returned to the store andΒ wanted to buy it! She said she didn't have the money at the time, and lived in a different state, but made a point to return to the shop to look for this capricorn!Β So it almost sold.
Β I decided I wanted to keep it.

I'm in a ceramics class for the first time this semester, and I confess I've totally been looking to your work for inspiration. XD Good to see you did some work like this too! I have no idea how sculpting in gypsum works...

It can be very frustrating to try to get a lot of detail in ceramic clay.You just don't have much time before it starts getting dry. It is better to apply textures rather than try to sculpt each detail.

Hm... I'll keep that in mind! Thanks for the tip. I'm actually going to the ceramics studio today. XD Have you ever tried adding the details after it dries, by carving into it like you do with the gypsum? I find I can get nice crisp details that way. I guess most of the trouble I have is getting really thin, fine sticking-out bits not to crack off, but that's more of a design flaw on my behalf, I guess. XD

Yes! I have done that with porcelain. It doesn't work as well with stuff with grog in it.

Haha, true that. It'd be annoying if those random solid pieces chipped out when trying to carve little tiny details. I guess the stuff I've worked with so far hasn't been that course, luckily!

Funny thing about this, I was wondering why nobosdy wanted it,I thought certainly at least ONE "Capricorn person" would of liked it.. oh well! So I took this piece home.
TWO YEARS later I get a call from the store that had held this "show" and there was a customer who had came back to the store specifically to see if they still had this. She should'a bought it then, I decided I wanted to keep it!
