Description
This is the dragon print that was used on the Grateful dead backstage pass . [link]This dragon got copied a lot. We have a collection of knock off belt buckles, mugs, tapestries, regular prints and "foil" prints with this dragon on them.
I couldn't find an actual print. I don't know if we still have any, other than one framed one, so I scanned this small, half tone image from an old Alberti Design catalog.
The original drawing was done on scratch board.

When I saw this in your portfolio, I just ground to a halt. I remember this guy. I was little, very little, and a friend of a friend had brought over a catalog filled with dragon merchandise. Most of it I skimmed over without a second glance but this, for some reason, just caught me. I don't even know how old I was but it honestly has stuck with me all these years. I kind of think pf this as the image that really got me hooked on fantasy art. I must have stared at this thing for hours. I begged the girl who had it to just let me have that one page and I cut out this tiny square of an image and pasted it on a long since lost sketchbook.
The lines of sinuous curves, the long talons that were elegant yet wicked, the incredible depth of detail in each scale, and those large bird like eyes. I could all most see it moving. I still can when I look at it now. ^___^ Let me just say thank you, now that I know you're the original artist, for having inspired me so much. I don't think I can fave this one enough.

I remember seeing this print in Dancing Dragon years ago.. I've always been a huge fan of your dragons. I was wandering around etsy today and i found a pendant based off of this drawing of yours. i had to come back here and look up this drawing to verify i wasn't crazy. I'm sure people copy your work a ton... but i was wondering if it still bothers you. Esp. regarding this piece.

I have the Mother with two babies, and I also have another one that looks like it has butterfly wings almost. That one was done in 1981.
I wish I had a pen and ink drawing of the three kirin that is over on elfwood.
And yes, I have a lot of the sculptures. My original Mother, Father and Hatchling are in the original green before you started branching out into the other colors.

My mother has a couple of your dragon drawings I believe. I know she has a large one that is merely the head and neck of a dragon and I believe a smaller print that is the companion piece to this (the mother dragon and the two smaller ones).
She absolutely loves your work and has SEVERAL of your statues as well.

When I received it, it was in plastic wrapping and had a piece of cardobard behind it to keep it from bending.

if it is on on 17 x 21 heavy white paper, printed with black ink,and packaged on thin brown corrugated cardboard with a fine rippled edge, (OR fat grey corrugated cardboard ) and is heat-sealed in shrink-wrap plastic,it is almost certainly an authentic old one.
We haven't run into any knock offs that are packaged exactly like the real ones.( but, of course, if it was that similar we would never know it was fake!)
The prints we sell now are packaged in a clear plastic envelope with a pasteboard backing, like the way comics are packaged.
