Description A snapshot of the old tortoise sculpture.
This is one of the line of animal sculptures produced by Windstone Editions when we first started it in 1984. Windstone was originally called "Mark Hines Creations" because the whole thing was our friend Mark's idea! These normal animals were all discontinued a few years later when we realized that fantasy things were much more popular.
This particular tortoise is one of the very first things we ever cast. He is reproduced from a mold taken right off of the clay original with no "cleaning up". The casting is awful...The signature is almost illegible on his left side. He only has one eye.

I love seeing these. It gives us a real feel for your creative history. BTW, I recieved a PYO kirin today, and I think I should have been ordering these ages ago. They show me just how teensy your tools must be....

Oh wow! You must post a pic of the kirin when you finish it! We are going to start a group for pyo things on DA, I invite you to join when we do!.

Good heavens! I'm not sure if my skills are up to painting one of YOUR statues! If I was feeling ambitious, I might, and if I do, I want some pointers so that I don't screw it up. That would be really sad.

By the way, I've been entrusted with a broken hatchling Pegasus of yours that needs repair. Do you have a recommended way to repair one of your broken statues?? The break is clean and very neat, so once reglued, it should be almost invisible. Thanks in advance for any hints!

I would just glue it back together with Elmer's white glue ( not craft glue). That kind of glue can be pressed tightly together and the excess wiped off with water.
Epoxy would work, and is waterproof, but makes a big mess if it gets on the surface of the pieces.
I can send you touch-up paint to hide the crack,is it a white Pegasus?
Also, if you ever have missing pieces or voids in a damaged piece, epoxy clay from "Aves" is wonderful for fixing stuff!

Thanks so much for posting this. My tortoise looks almost just like this, same pose & glass eyes but the date is 1988 & he's much bigger Darn was so hoping I had held on to a rare Windstone all these years lol. But now I know what to look for!

I like his facial expression. He looks like he's spotted a tasty bit of lettuce somewhere nearby.

Despite the imperfections he's still rather charming.
