Description
I painted the first casting we made of this phoenix in shades of grey to see if the details needed any more fixing before we made the final molds.He is a composite of my pet peacock and pet cockatiel. They were my live models while I sculpted this.
We sell this sculpture unpainted for folks to customize themselves (PYO stands for paint-your-own)
He is about 7 inches tall.

I adopted an cockatiel about a week ago who stays with me downstairs (he's my babby, even if he is six years old), and I gotta say, I keep on thinking of this sculpture when I look at him.
Just thought you should know, that yer that damn good and all, anyway.

Why.... are you NOT more popular?! Geez. I've always wanted to be able to sculpt and do crafts- but alas, I have tried painting both on canvas and on different types of pottery and sculpture. And I took ceramics in High school for two years- I only made two things I'm fully proud of out of MANY different objects. XD And so, I commend you and all those at Windstone Editions. <3

Oh it's so gorgeous....but I'm bummed, because you aren't selling a line of painted ones. I can't paint for my life nor do I have time for it...although I guess I could buy a PYO anyway and just leave it unpainted....I must have one of these!

Sounds like you've got a lot of birds running around your house (I saw you mention emus somewhere!)... you must have to go pretty far for peace and quiet.

We moved here, to our present location with 45 fellow earthlings of other species. I had to re-home about 50 others before we moved. It was pretty out of control.

Good heavens! I'd have more if my husband could cope. There was a time when I was bent on having a bobcat, but after finding out what it takes to have one, I decided against it. If my state had a program for rehabilitating bats, I would get the rabies series of shots (required) and happily bottle-feed bat babies. I'm the one that lost, injured, or orphaned critters end up with....
The squirrel was a REAL challenge, since he was a determined chewer. He could chew through anything, and did. His cage was made of sheet aluminum and he destroyed large sections of it...
My dream fur children would be a herd of miniature horses.....

I had hand raised squirrels continuously for about 22 years. Oy vey It's like living with weaponized anti gravity furry potatoes. With ten fishooks. Up your back.

Ah, I remember all too well. I would don two sweatshirts before taking Dizzy out of his cage. Then he'd go nuts (so to speak) and run around and around my body at great speed. You could hear the ripping sounds of his claws as he went. He was a weird little guy too. He had this "thing" for 3x5 cards that I can't explain. If I gave him one, he'd hug it to himself, rubbing it with his front paws as if caressing it, then he'd just fall over backward with it. It was so odd that for many years, it was great fun to show people his "trick". Then we'd all have a good laugh and speculate just what was going on in his little pea sized brain...
Oh, added a new insect to my collection today. I got a QUEEN vespa mandarinia or Japanese Tiger Wasp. It's the largest wasp species in the world. This particular one is 55 mm from mandible to stinger. Crazy huge! I've wanted a queen for a long time. Found one on Etsy of all places...

No wait, I did the math wrong...long day... four fishhooks on each front foot, five on the back ones, right? 18 fish hooks up your back. With a 1 1/2 pound furry potato attached

Acrylic paint is what we recommend. I use "Golden" brand, but there are many other good brands. The cheap acrylics in bottles that are sold in craft supply shops work just fine, but they often aren't guaranteed to be light fast.There is a tutorial on painting these ... on our forum somewhere, I gotta find it and post a link.
