Description
I'm chipping away at the list of tasks that need to be finished in order to get this campaign going. I Just ordered a proof of this small sketch book to use as a contribution "reward". Hope it isn't another printing disaster. My kickstarter is live NOW www.kickstarter.com/projects/r…

I'm looking forward to your Kickstarter and then the graphic novel itself! I was even able to talk my Best Beloved into reading it and she enjoyed it quite a great deal ... which makes it easier for me to help you !

I really like the decoration that you have your bovine characters wearing, and especially the way you draw their faces, and that cap of curly hair that some of them have on their foreheads.

I'm excited for your kickstarter! If I can get myself a job in time I'll definitely be contributing. I've followed your comic for years, and I love the detail and humor you put into your work.

Oh thank you!
I suppose I will probably end up with about ten boxes of unsold books, so
they'll be around for awhile.

I stalk silently, so even though I rarely post, Mondays are one of my favorite days because there is often a an update! xD
I've never ran a kickstarter before, so I've got no idea how it all works, although maybe I'll have to figure it out myself one day once I get some real progress done on the comic I've started. (I've got 5-6 pages done atm, but I have only the cover and the first page posted. I'm doing it all in watercolor, and so I have to wait until I have access to a decent scanner, argh. I know you claim you have no idea what you are doing, but you are an inspiration to me regardless! I'm sure you'll sell plenty of copies. The key is all in marketing. Or so they tell me anyways, I don't have much real experience in that myself, lol.

I had a pet bull. He was super sweet and affectionate. He loved to be brushed and scratched, and he loved attention.

Don't be too miffed if the colours in ink don't look as good as they do on the screen. They never do in CMYK inks.

Just remember that no one notices as they will be seeing them for the first time in print and will accept this.
The artwork is wonderful and they will love it and they won't nit pick it. The creator is almost always disappointed and frustrated but those who love your stories and art will go on loving them. They won't really care, or even notice, if pink isn't as vibrant as it is onscreen or that blue has gone off a bit from the screen version.
The printed version is a thing unto itself and I'm sure everything will be fine in the end.

This sketchbook will be black and white except for the cover, so it will be fine.

Hey, I just got a sample of the printed sketch book in the mail, and amazingly, the cover colors are almost EXACTLY the same as the image I posted! The cover looks really nice!
This was a digital print, so that may explain it, but I am shocked!
The inside though... kinda sucks. The black isn't jet black... and looks pretty crumby. It may be my fault, I'll need to tweak the art files a little to try to increase the contrast.
It is funny, the part I was sure would look fine is the problem! Life. Always something.

Great to hear the colours came out well. I always breathe a sigh of what I think is relief but may just be the exhalation of panic when I see that the covers look okay .
I don't know why your inside jobs have gone off a bit. It might depend on which black you used.
If you can, put a black and white image into a photo editing program that has a gamma feature and turn up the gamma. Often, a multitude of sins appear.
This can be caused by the artist's actual brush strokes that look black on screen but are in fact not matt black areas and so this might account for the crumblies on a print.
This happened to me some years ago when I did images for my brother's silk screening business. What I thought was black had pockets of gradations in it because they were digital ink drawings. Turning up the contrast doesn't always help because those strokes and lighter areas are still there and the printer doesn't always get the message.
Keep on trucking and live in hope! I empathise with your blips. One day you'll look back and be amazed at how far you've come in getting a printer to do what you want it to do.
Meantime, best of luck. I think the finished products are going to be great. By the time you do Rue Day, you'll be smiling

I think I may need to have this book printed "full color" even though it would be mostly black and white images. It will triple the price, but that way it can be printed in "rich black" and the pencil drawings will have that warm tone, like real graphite.
Thank you for the suggestions! I'll fool around with it.

Ah, "rich black", that might fix things. Price is the big killer, isn't it? It's what depresses most of us indy people.
