Description
I did a line of prints that were sold in the early 1980's. This silly Sushi Cat print was one of the most popular. It is a old fashioned colored pencil drawing that was printed on an old fashioned offset press. We are sold-out of these right now, but have been considering rerunning them.
Technology has improved so much since then though! I would probably have to re-work this entire image digitally to make it even HALF as good as the art produced today!!
This was published by Alberti Design in 1983.

I have one of these, framed.Β I have no idea of its monetary worth (it was a gift), but I can tell you I hung it in my bedroom so I can look at it daily when I dress.Β I smile every time.Β I absolutely love it.

If cats had the mind for it, a sushi place would be something I'd imagine them setting up xD
Nice work!

Β I'm sorry! No, we sold out of these, and never got around to printing more.
I've seen a couple of these sushi cat prints show up for sale on ebay.
Β I do still have some postcard sized sushi cat prints, if you want one of those. They are small, but cute.

But, this has its own charm to it, and it doesn't need to match up to art today. It has a children's storybook charm to it.

OMG! I love your art, Melody! I have 3 of your peacock dragons (Scratching Dragon being my favorite), mamma griffin on nest, a dragon wall sconce and 2 flying horse prints that I found at a thrift store. SOMEONE didn't appreciate what they had! I've also given my mom the hatchling flying horse (her most cherished) and 4 flap cats. If you ever do a run of prints for this Sushi Cats artwork, I hope I can purchase one.

I just saw this for the first time at a friend's house. I purposely searched for it to see if it was still available. My wife would love it! It is very clever. If you do re-issue it, I would suggest that you do NOT upgrade as your comment sugest. For me, one attrative attribute is the print's similarity to Japanese wood block prints. I would guess that was one reason for it's popularity in the 1980's (remember the Shogun craze after it was a TV mini-series?). Since then, cats have become the dominant household pet in the US, and I would not be surprised if it would be just as popular now as then.

OMG!!! I remember this one! Somehow, I didn't remember it as being yours, though I don't know why. Was it signed as it appears here? If you do decide to do more prints, I will have to sign up for one since I have a dear friend who NEEDS this.
I especially love the two little kitties at the bottom. One shows off what he has in his mouth....XDXDXDXD

I had to add a larger signature on this image because the one on there didn't show up. Yeah it's mine, though a very different style from the usual, more anal stuff.

Half as good as the art produced today? Are you kidding? This is pure gold! I'd love to have a copy some time when I have the money. I'd hang this on a empty wall area in my kitchen. We have three cats, so this would be perfect, especially the calicos you have in this cause we have one calico. ^___^
