Ooh are you uploading them at larger size now or is it just that my internet is suddenly behaving better?

Also OMG. Reptards. Kade, when you start inventing stupid childish insults, you have lost the argument. *facepalm*

I didn't know I could upload the pages full size!
I don't think it worked in the past,  but it did this time! Now you can see how messy the art really is...

I totally made it up! - but I found, after looking it up in the Urban dictionary, that it has been used as a derogatory term for Republicans! Oh Noes! Ha ha ha!

I really did not intend to insult anyone

Strange theological conflict if you ask me. But then, my understanding of this conflict is based on my understand of orthodox-versus-not in our world...
So before I give in to the urge to pick their argument apart into tiny little fragments (starting with the meaning of "orthodox"), did we ever have a page explaining this Reptanglian religion in terms of the world's history?

Reptangle In reply to SideQuestPubs [2014-11-26 19:15:04 +0000 UTC]

Ok I changed the wording to be "orthdox Ayonian" to avoid SOME confusion.

Reptangle In reply to Reptangle [2014-11-27 05:36:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes I guess orthodox Ayonian would qualify as a "religion", since  there are laws, and dire consequences of breaking them.
Every argument breaks down to semantics, doesn't it?

Reptangle In reply to SideQuestPubs [2014-11-25 19:25:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, strange. These are fantasy religions.

No-no I didn't mean the  "orthodox"  we know as a religion here, in the real world.  Maybe orthodox is the wrong word . .. but I meant a basic tenet that stems directly from an original source without fanciful add-ons. Old style, original and basic.

Kade is Orthodox Ayonian. Ayonah is a real person in this comic, so being orthodox Ayonian doesn't require faith. It hardly fits the description of "a religion".

I haven't explained the religions yet. I was trying to do that here, a bit... This is one of those stories that has so much back story material it is difficult to get it all across, so it gets doled out in snippets. I am learning about story telling as I go. This is new territory for me, I am not a writer!

"Maybe orthodox is the wrong word . .. but I meant a basic tenet that stems directly from an original source without fanciful add-ons. Old style, original and basic"
Actually that kinda is the meaning of the word orthodox.
My issue with the word was that "orthodox" did not, then, imply anything about his religious beliefs or the lack thereof. That is, it didn't mean he was religious, nor did it mean he wasn't.

"Ayonah is a real person in this comic, so being orthodox Ayonian doesn't require faith"
That's what I was going for in my question of the world's history.

"It hardly fits the description of "a religion"."
I would beg to differ, but I'm one of those weird types who finds ways to define even atheism as a religion.
I'm also one of the types who would debate the notion that Kade's belief system doesn't "need" faith.
But neither of these come up in serious discussions for me... usually. They're usually more an excuse to argue semantics than any actual theological debate; I leave the serious debates up to people who actually know what they're doing.

"This is one of those stories that has so much back story material it is difficult to get it all across, so it gets doled out in snippets. I am learning about story telling as I go. This is new territory for me, I am not a writer"
It's new territory for all of us at one point or another. Don't worry about, you're doing fine!

You are becoming a fine writer (though I thought you a writer already; your story is holding together very well), and you're finding ways to present what is, in all probability, a complex subject for your world.  You've also done a good bit of either foreshadowing or outright TEASING by introducing the "Reptangle" concept - I'm like, OOH!  Now we'll get to see how the title fits with the story!  - So yes, keep on talking about the differing ideologies.  I, and I think a lot of people, would find these very interesting discussions.  It tells us a lot about your world, and about the characters who ascribe to particular ways of thinking.  If you're worried about bogging down the comic's plot, though, perhaps you could do an aside where Kade TELLS US HOW IT IS, in his uniquely entertaining voice.  Maybe one of your fun sketchy-cartoony things...

Either way, I'm looking forward to every installment for both art and story.  Your characters are great fun, and I've become a fan of Kade the Adventurous.

Thank you so much!! Hard to believe this story is managing to hold together! I worry that I have been introducing too much weird stuff too fast But it does all support the overarching story. It is weird to write a story from the middle outwards.
 Your comments really encourage me.

Seriously questioning what Lark was doing out there.

I understand the "bubble" mentality that people in the military and those that are deployed get sucked into- if it's not in my bubble, it does not exist such thinking, it is/can be the one thing that keeps a person focused/sane through the whole thing.

So maybe that is what I am seeing- the new guy is disrupting the bubbles people have made around themselves and people getting bitchy (understandably) about it.

Kade hasn't been in a combat environment(?) and these guys have been in one too long.

Don't mind me- I'm just rambling at this point.

When bubbles collide.
Kade is from academia and a high circle, or caste, ( royalty, in fact)
Srg. Berm is from military, and from a lower circle.
They each need some brain expansion.

 I love hearing your ramblings!

It shows (that they both need some brain expansion). lol.
But that is what makes the story enjoyable.

Thank you.

Fourth panel. Larry, Moe and Shemp, left to right. And I'm finally beginning to appreciate how inventive you are with noses.

Who's Shemp? Is that a real name of someone? #3 needs a name.

uncle-bilbo In reply to Reptangle [2014-11-25 19:19:53 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking that they remind me of the Three Stooges. The guy on the left looks a bit like Larry Fine, the mouthy one in the middle has to be Moe Howard, and I named the third guy on the right Shemp because he just doesn’t look anything like Curly.

Yeah, there were the Howard (Howitz) brothers Moses, (Moe)  Curly (Jerome) and Shemp (Samuel) If I remember the story correctly, their mother had a thick Old-World accent and when she called him 'Sam' is sounded like 'Shemp' Your 'intrepid bounty hunters' reminded me a bit of the Three Stooges

Reptangle In reply to uncle-bilbo [2014-11-26 06:01:30 +0000 UTC]

Actually the middle one looks more like Shemp

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

uncle-bilbo In reply to Reptangle [2014-11-26 09:06:50 +0000 UTC]

Probably so, considering the nose. I mostly just thought that his personality reminded me of Moe, loud and argumentative. He was always the leader, full of himself. Also getting carried away with himself while the others knew the danger and waited for the sky to fall was a common Stooges gag.

Forgot to add, but I let the Stooges distract me as easily as Kade did. I like way he once again turned full circle. Not long ago he was calm, competent and intelligent, only to be turned in an instant into a blabbering buffoon by a blabbering buffoon. But I expect that the first is the real Kade. Intelligent people find it easy to act stupid. Stupid people find it very hard to appear intelligent.
