Requirement 1 (of 3) for Wild-caught Obers: The Arrival

It was no secret that Faith had a difficult upbringing and life. She spent her formulative years on the streets, learning how to defend herself and not rely on the aid of others. Her trust issues allowed her to become fiercely independent, and pride herself on her knife wielding/throwing skills. Her criminal tendencies landed her in juvenile detention, where Faith was introduced to equine therapy. Faith developed an appreciation for horses, and found herself on a personal road to redemption. The owners at AVS agreed to take her on for work-release, despite her aloof (and somewhat untoward/challenging) attitude. And she's stayed on working there for the last few years now.

Faith doesn't talk about her past. In fact, she doesn't talk to many people at all. But the horses seem to have broken through her barrier - with some sort of basic feral demeanor that she can understand and respect. It was Zachary, the AVS trainer, who noted how well she interacted with all of the horses - even some with more difficult or temperamental personalities. It was he, who suggested to Dean and Brittany (AVS owners) that she might actually be just the rider that they needed for their newest import - a wild-caught Obertaurer stallion. AVS Volcanic Ash, now dubbed "Sooty" by everyone at the farm, was an assured, intelligent and confident stallion. Zach assumed that he would need an equally strong personality in his handler. And Faith was nothing, if not a strong-willed young lady.

Dean and Brittany were cautious, but could see the wisdom in Zach's plan. So, when they received confirmation that a young stallion had been caught for them at Obertauern, they sent Zach and Faith to retrieve and transport him home. Zach informed Faith during the trip that she would be taking point on the stallion. She was surprised in his trust of her (and a bit excited), but maintained her poker face and let him know in her nonchalant way that she "might" be able to help.

The transport went smoothly, and sooner than anyone had imagined, Sooty was released from quarantine and arrived at the farm. The stallion danced as he was unloaded from the trailer. His vibrant eyes took in everything while his ears swiveled and flared nostrils scented the air. He looked on edge, as he pirouetted on his dark hooves. His coat showed the most stunning hint of bay coloring, which faded into a gorgeous roaning blanket with splotchy sooty markings. Faith was in love with him at first sight - the magnificent, wild stallion who had been uprooted from his life and transplanted here. She felt like she could relate...

The first week Sooty was given room to roam, explore his surrounds and stretch his legs. His stall opened up to a privately fenced pasture, where he could learn to come in and out at his leisure and desire. Faith spent every moment of her day, that she wasn't tied up doing chores, just staying off to the side and watching him settle in. He grew accustomed to her presence quickly. She was there, as a constant, ready to interact when he was. But she wasn't going to force him to do anything. She wouldn't break that trust. When he was ready, he would come to her... and they would start their story.
