Honestly speaking, I had quite a lot of lol moments. The worst part were the characters. I have seen many films which had stupid characters in them, but the amount of morons in Prometheus was almost overwhelming.

There were so many fabulously stupid moments that I actually spent a decent amount of time wondering if it was intentional. I came up with this gigantic head canon where everything was supposed to be this way but then I remembered that, no, it was just lazy crap.

If all the stupidity in this film had really been canon, the film had been even more annoying. The major problem of this "lazy crap" is not only the stupid characters and horrible plot - mankind was created by an army of ridiculous Voldemort clones, WTF? - but the weird concoction of being prequel, reboot, and stand-alone story in one. The mere idea that Prometheus is a prequel to the original Alien is almost a sacrilege. I do not think that a classic needs a prequel or, much worse, a reboot.
But as it seems the creators of Prometheus love their silly, little story so much that there will be a sequel to it, probably with the wonderful sub-headline: Voldemort strikes back.

Dude, no. Follow me here. Ignoring the fact that this is totally and completely not the case, what if the point of Prometheus was to set up what a complete badass Ripley is? Think about it.
The AVP universe is littered with ball-crushing women of action with sharp minds and sharper knives. So Shaw being a weak, whiny moron is actually playing against expectations. If she is supposed to be an idiot, then she's an original idea for the franchise.
Maybe Earth is so fluffy and stupid that they really did think sending a billion dollar ship of people to meet with aliens without any weapons seemed like a good idea and, because Shaw is an idiot who decided to go pick a fight with the world destroying Engineers, mankind got jarred out of its daze and had to man up. People got cynical and the humanity got grittier. Being a pretty little scientist with cute beliefs wasn't good enough anymore and women had to get mean to survive.
Suddenly, Shaw isn't the good guy. She's the antagonist who set up problems just so a better, stronger woman - Ripley - could solve them. And that's be all kinds of clever.
Too bad it's completely wrong, cause it could be awesome.
