Might want to focus on your notebook.Is the smooth shading too much?
This had a jacket,Β sta.sh/064nlrcp0bt but as usual...
Gosh I hardly drew any vines or leaves on this one.

I prefer the jacket and darker clothes at least. Something about this one gives me a "young" vibe, which doesn't appeal to (my personal tastes, which are irrelevant, since it's your art). As far as shading goes, I say it's only too much if you have better things to be doing!

You are probably right about the colors! Β The creature is supposed to have a youthful demeanor or energy, but not to the point of seeming child-like.
A problem with this kind of shading is that it is very easy to do poorly and create an unnatural impression. Β In the process of smoothing I often inadvertently alter crucial lines and shadow boundaries that make the subject seem deformed.
