Circling the cryptic mist that protects the island of Nocturn swims what appears to be another smaller island. In actuality this moving island is the silent guardian of Nocturn, a mythically large turtle who, upon its back, carries an entire forest.
Turtle Island, as the citizens of Nocturn have taken to calling it, is both protector and gatekeeper go Nocturn Island’s foggy shores. The turtle takes the task of destroying Human vessels who come too close and houses the gate to Nocturn upon its back. Those who wish to live upon the island’s shore must pass through the turtle’s gate and pass the Caretaker’s judgement. The Kappa Caretaker meets all potential residents, past, future and present, upon their arrival to the gate. His eyes and ability mark him as the guardian’s guardian, he asks but one question: “What is the better life that you seek?” Answer honestly and without malice, those who are mischievous are welcome, those who are murderous are not. Should you pass this judgment and the Caretaker deems you fit, you are welcomed to pass beyond the island’s gate where you are settled on a boat lead by lantern light set toward Nocturn City’s Port, and the beginning of your new life. Those who are deemed unworthy pass through the gate and find themselves awoken on a previous distant shore, the island they had visited foggy and forgotten as naught but a dream...
