Description This is my reply to the ["Happy Video Game Nerd [HVGN]" . Not to any one video in general but everything he has done so far. His videos are funny, insightful and more importantly sincere. I've been a fan from his first video and have eagerly awaited each new video since.

Rather than making a conventional reply I decided to take my time and make a reply in the style of my animation ["I dream in retro"] . I set it in the theme of the video I would reply too, Little Nemo - The Dream Master. Not sure why I choose to make the reply this way. I guess it just felt right, or cool. If you haven't seen his work and your an old school gamer or otherwise you owe it to yourself to check it out.
Just follow the link/ ----> [HVGN]

Anyhow enough of that. Derek if you actually see this, thanks for bringing some good memories back to the surface again. I hope your computer is up and running soon.

-Retro Mike

EDIT: I should mention there is a Youtube version [link]
It's not so good quality wise but You can rewind.....

Great flash vid. As for the HVGN, I find him insightful as well. Especially his Earthbound review.

You have just become an inspiration to me, I'm studying this whole business of sprite art very seriously, thank you!

Cool! Spriting is pretty fun. It does take a lot of patience though. But if you can stick to it you can whip up some really cool stuff. If you post anything up on DA let me know.

Oh yeah, I've watched his videos to, he's great. Nice homage to him. (I love the game "Little Nemo: The Dreamaster," his review of it was great.) Nice animation, and game references.

The Zelda 1 quote was funny.

I love that game so much and he did a great job on the review. It's still one of my all time favorites. I couldn't help but choose that as the setting for the reply since the whole thing happens in a dream land.

The Zelda quote kind of just popped in there. I wanted my retro counter part to give Little Derek a cheat item, and after a long list I decided on the magic key [Since it opens all locks] from Zelda 2. What better item could you ask for in a game where you constantly collect keys. Anyhow once I decided on the item the quote just came into my mind. It was perfect.

I remember finding that key for the first time in Zelda 2, it was a pretty handy item. And yeah, I love Nemo alot to.

I heard the original comic strip "Little Nemo" is in public domain now, so it might be possible for Capcom to rerelease it on Virtual Console, or something.

I don't know why they haven't put this to VC yet. They have resealed some poor games on VC and continue to ignore the greats. Blows my mind.

Beau-Skunk In reply to RetroMike [2009-06-19 19:44:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's odd. It's getting kinda annoying how they've been releasing onley 1 VC game a week. (In favor of WiiWare and such.)
Europe & Japan got "Zelda: Majora's Mask" a month before the USA did for VC.

But yeah, they need to start releasing more then just Commodore 64 titles. I would squeel like a li'l girl if Nemo comes to VC.

They also need to get some Star Tropics on VC. Seriously.

Beau-Skunk In reply to RetroMike [2009-06-20 03:39:27 +0000 UTC]

Acctually, I think both Star Tropics games are availible on VC now.
I'll definatelly give those a shot, sence I've never played them, and I hear they're good.

RetroMike In reply to Beau-Skunk [2009-06-20 04:10:20 +0000 UTC]

Seriously?! How the hell did I miss that?! I'm gonna go look lol.

The first is far better than the second but they are both great.

Beau-Skunk In reply to RetroMike [2009-06-20 04:27:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's what the "Happy Video game Nerd" said. Both are good, but the first is far better. (His Duck Tales review was pretty good to. I never got the "special" ending for that one.)

I did see one guy on DA say ST2 was better, so I guess it depends on tastes. Still, I'll give the first one a shot first.
