A little tip: Run the 'unsharp mask' filter on a flattened version of this artwork to really bring out the details of the torn flesh / bone work

Very cool concept and aesthetic. The first thing that strikes me, as well as probably other viewers, is the lack of believability in the deterioration into a skull. It's a pretty clean shop, but pulling off that look takes a lot of practice and experience. I sure as hell can't do it. However! The skull-on-top-of-skin look sort of works. Or at least, it has potential with the way you composed it to black out the eye. The angles around the temple and jaw seem angular and unrealistic. I think this is something you could run with, to create a something surreal and a bit beyond real life. You could stylize the entire skull and make it work as a design.

I like the effect at the level of the jaw! We have an impression of fragility, but also to be in front of a not very convenient creature!
