The scene is not just about a man who walks on water, as so many magicians try to re-create but moreover it is about Faith and having enough of it or in the case of Simon Peter the lack of it.
As he steps out of the boat in the raging sea at first he is fine, then he doubts and questions...as he looks around him at the torrential wind and waters only to start sinking in the water. With an extended hand Jesus pulls him out of the water and asks, Why did you doubt?

This story also transcends time as it is not just an incident that happend some 2000 years ago but happens in different ways daily as each of us have different 'storms' of life, where without faith we are sinking in the water...and even today Jesus has his extended hand out asking us the same question...Why do you doubt!
