I'm a bumbling idiot: Yes I am. Don't take this question as a moron's question: Reference means to fit a character into it, yes? And tracing is just redoing it and saying it's your's?

Don't worry, its a perfectly reasonable question. yes, when I say reference I mean using that pose but in a new image of your own. But tracing is where you trace over the image exactly and don't change it in any way. So yes, if you want to create a character around this pose then that's fine
