This is just a half test but I was happy enough with it to share; a new version of Flynn (morphs, everything) specifically for the continuation.

Yes, Flynn Lives....sort of....

A short breakdown on how Flynn still exists (without techspeak):

In 1982, Flynn creates multiple versions of CLU to hack into ENCOM. Every iteration is caught and derezzed. As Gibbs said “You know, you can remove men like Alan and me from the system, but we helped create it. And our spirit remains in every program we design for this computer.” CLU is not the only 'echoes' of Flynn in the system, but they are an example of that architecture.

Later in 1982,Flynn challenges the MCP enough that he is digitized into the system. ENCOM, which is part of the system vast, now reference information for Flynn's digital signature. Even after Flynn leaves that signature remains written into the grid.

Flynn creates his own self contained homogeneous network he calls The Grid (Tron:Legacy). I 1989 he goes missing, digitized into his grid new version of CLU (a 'likeness utility') takes over.

CLU needs Flynn's Identity Disk to bring his concept of absolute balance beyond Flynn's Grid, and in 2010 devises a means to draw Flynn out by bringing his son, Sam, into The Grid. This is very important...(now, I like to think it isn't as stupid as CLU wanting to turn himself 'human', because somehow can due to being a 'likeness' of Flynn but rather LEAVING The Grid as a program and invading the system vast. What better way to guide and control users than if you control all the systems? This is what Rook intends on doing).

So Flynn could send a page out of The Grid, which was a self contained server that was not connected to the system vast (the internet, etc). This is a hardline communication that connects his grid with that of the main system we all are connected to. This was how he communicated with Alan and how CLU tricked Sam into coming to the arcade where he inherently got digitized. When Flynn reintegrated CLU that eruption, contained the derezzed components of Kevin Flynn. Now, the fun fairy tale is that CLU is gone, Flynn saved everyone, hooray....except we never see that. We saw an explosion and a cascade of destruction...and Sam backing up a jump drive and compressing whatever was left into a static state. Flynn's grid, the Legacy Grid is dead.

So where did Flynn go? The heap. The place where all code is born and eventually returns. The ENCOM grid, on the system vast, had remnants of Flynn's original code. It was his footprint, his echo, and when he derezzed with CLU he was sent to the heap like any other program because the system was doing what it was designed to do...balance itself out. Except Flynn is an anomaly, he's a unique variable...and the system just stuck him in limbo because it didn't know what to do with him. He was transported via the hardline the pager used back to the main grid in the wake of the destruction of his grid and left in purgatory.

When AI, Ahkten, came into the grid and the DAEMON, Escalt, saw that this flawed presence needed to be stopped he went in search of Flynn's code. Escalt knows something of Flynn is left behind and he needs it to track down an ancient hacking program Flynn once used to hack ENCOM named Creeper. When he couldn't find Flynn he recompiled Rook....the MCP...an amalgamation of a chess program with the Sark program.
