Description
Finally finished this mermaid! I started this awhile ago and had been working on it on and off.My mother passed away in 2018. She really loved mermaids and I started this because I was missing her. This is not a drawing of my mother, but I incorporated a lot of aspects of her into the image.
I tried to make her skin tone match my mothers: she lived in hot places most of her life and enjoyed sunshine. She was tan from this. Even when her skin was at its palest, it still had remnants of a tan hue. It was really hard to pin down: I had problems coloring her skin tone even as a child. I am happy enough with it though! I aimed for the warmer, more saturated color she had when she was healthy. My mother's eyes were blue, so are the mermaid's.
My mothers favorite colors were pink and purple: pink being most important. So I made the mermaid mostly pink and purpleish. I even gave her the nail color my mother had most often and tried to make her lips match my mothers favorite lipstick (plum dandy by mac if you're curious). My mom also loved jewelry and shiny things (probably much like mermaids). That necklace is a real one she had and I have one that pairs with it (mine has a clover instead of a heart).

Oh Frappe I'm so sorry for your loss too! Grief affects everyone differently: you don't have to draw something in their memory. Remembering them fondly is more than enough and I'm sure they love you very much. Crying is a good way to express emotion instead of it building up.
Thank you for the lovely comment, and I really hope the grief eases for you too.

It certainly can be! Sometimes my eyes burn, but it does help emotionally.
