Description
cranes own our streets; probably won't be around in a hundred years. people find them tortured (legs broken, wings torn off, etc.)sandhill orphan (reversechapter, 2007)
as a young bird i lost my wing
i sound like a cat when i sing
i can't fly above a house
i can fly in a small arc now
i fly in circles really fast
don't talk to me about stats
let's walk down to the coast
i can jump away like a ghost
i want to feel the salty breeze
glide in circles over the seas
if you see the man who tore off my wing
tell him to leave it for the worms
because i have already learned
everything i need to be free
come on tonight let's sleep in the park
i sing like a cat not like a lark
the dirty air turned my feathers sulfur grey
when i was hurt my family flew away
i healed and listened nightly to a serenade of cats
and ate from a lady's feeder in the shade
i believe everything happens for a reason
i visit her home every season
now the feeder is empty and she is gone
but i still find pieces in the lawn

Yeah, that one was by a house where a lady feeds them all the time (mentioned in the song). Unfortunately, that is what gets them hurt - not being afraid of people.
