It’s night in the world of the Living, and mortal souls sleep…as the quiet of the night…cradles their dreams.  All the world is at peace, all life resting silently, in the promise of a new day, a new beginning…that they may begin life fresh anew…with the sweet dreams of yester eve nothing more than a memory.  Yet, these dreams provide a freedom from the world we all know…our souls free to dream of eternal rest…until that fateful day does come to the world.

While mortal hearts sleep in peace, far away in the realm of Immortal Fields, where the undying souls find little rest; they silently cry, their tormented souls, burden with eons of grief…unable to dream…oh sweet dreams…the thought of eternal rest…it will always elude them…eternal bliss beyond their reach, and they continue to suffer…no rest, no relief…save them…

This is the price of Immortality…while dreams offer the mortal a chance to be free, with the promise of eternal rest after this life is done, this is not so for the Undying.  Immortal Dreams only allow temporary peace…and the Undying loathe their dreams, for they are nothing but fake freedoms from their sorrows…taunting them with visions of a kind of peace that they can never reach.  These sorrows that they cannot escape…they make an immortal soul that much to bear.

The pain of our sorrows, built up from years of grief and tragedy…it is real for us all, and yet only the mortal will ever taste the sweet cup of eternal rest.  The Immortal…no…the pain of lost loved ones, war and violence, sadness and grief…only the mortal may let go of their grief, death from this world…their souls free from the troubles of this life…forevermore…

And yet, for the immortal, this eternal rest will never come…unless they are slain, die from the troubles of their lives becoming too much to bear alone; …or…if they give up their souls…to die from this world of pain and tears, and find eternal life in the next…that is the bitter cup of immortality.  To stay in this life and achieve an uncertain and elusive purpose…only to lose their youthful hearts to sickness and despair.  They look for an answer…and perhaps, thinking the stars to be messengers to the other side…that is, eternal rest…and yet they find no answer.   It is only in their hearts, will they find the answer…

As mortal souls sleep…the souls of the Undying sleep in Immortal Fields…perchance to dream, perhaps to meditate, for in dreams, the immortal find no consolation…in their hearts, they know all too well the fate their souls will bear.  The immortal walk this world like ghosts…unseen by the mortal, as they hide themselves from all who Live and Die.  A few will lose their souls to grief…unable to walk the world alone, and share their sorrows with none.  Others too will never die…until the end of time comes, their souls strong enough to fight the pain, their wisdom giving them hope…as the promise of an eventful future keeps that inner youth within them alive and burning bright with the intensity of a thousands suns…

The Undying…are they really born, only to be bound to the fate of the world around them?  Must they live in sadness and isolation, only to suffer the same fate as the imperfect and scarred world?  No…this fate is not placed on anyone…the immortal too, may give up their lives, though their souls desire not to leave the world that they love.  Yet, the souls of the immortal may see the place their dreams tease them with, and this eternal rest…the Undying are only too grateful to accept.

In Immortal Dreams, the Undying dream, forever loathing their dreams for showing them what they might never see.  However, for the one soul, who gave up his life, crying silently on the cairn where a loved one lies beneath, so has another immortal soul found that rest, rest, that his immortal dreams illustrated for him…and in the promise of reuniting with one whom he holds dear…he no longer loathes immortal dreams…and no longer, does he suffer.

”A Broken Spirit, living in the land of Immortal Dreams, may I find that eternal rest, and find true bliss there.  May I only be reunited with those I love, though I might not stay in paradise?  Immortal is my soul, and I may not die…but I pray you let me find some comfort and release from the sorrows that weigh heavy on my heart.  If I may not die…please unburden my soul…and Immortal Dreams, thereafter be my peace.” Shadow, Dark Elemental, his final prayer to Arandor, the Light Elemental.
