Description "Immortality"
By: Karlie Sparklefire

"For those who know that life is as good as you make it...and that life, no matter how hard it gets, is always worth living, for the promise that good will come out of every sunrise and passing season."

Immortality is bitter sweet; it is a red rose…bloodstained with the memories of days long past.  Memories…of friends born and passed away…happy times that are nothing more…than a memory…

Immortality...it is not a gift...rather it is a burden.  Why must the immortal suffer...doomed to bear the passing seasons as the world around them comes into bloom...only to pass away?  Yet the immortal...they're born...they age...and they never die...immortality...it is a cruel beauty...keeping them tethered to this world and barring them from true freedom...

Time…it is a word that does not belong in the vocabulary of the immortal…for the immortal know no night…no day…no seasons.  As they do not know time…they do not understand it.  What is this…effect…that the passing days…the cycles of the moon, has on their loved ones?  How can the mortal bear to live each day…weighed down with the knowledge that someday their lives will end?  The mortal tell them that each life has a purpose…then what is theirs?  The immortal are blinded by their inability to understand the lives of the mortal…

Immortality is only torture if that is what one chooses to make it…the real torture on your heart, is how you choose to handle your loneliness…how you choose to cope.  Nothing in life is ever easy…be you mortal or immortal, however we are all born to do and accomplish a certain amount of things in this world.  No matter who we are…our futures always elude us…shrouded in mystery at what will come of the days ahead.  This is what the hearts of the immortal perceive from the hearts of others…the immortal themselves have no comprehension of time, place, or reason for life…life is forever a mystery to them…

Yet…like the mortal, the immortal live for tomorrow, progressing daily into an uncertain, endless future.  Their loneliness only fuels their urge to live for the future…like all of us…hoping that someday their loneliness will be dispelled, their questions about life answered…their future, and purpose in life….made clear.  The hope for a better life…the hope that they will discover who they really are…that hope keeps them going…keeps them from giving up on their futures.  The immortal…like all creatures, walk blindly into a future that promises nothing but more questions.  However, unlike the mortal, that future promises no eternal rest...only promising a life of endless sorrow, vain hope…broken dreams…needless suffering…

The lives of the immortal…tend to be lived for the most part…in isolation.  They choose their friends carefully, gravitating to others like them…refraining from making friends with the mortal…knowing only too well that someday they will have to let them go.  However, the immortal will not say that an unending life is one not worth living.  Rather, they say that they will not give up on their futures…unless they are sure that they can die in peace…because their lives will directly affect the lives of others.

The Undying find hope in their isolation…burning like a smoldering flame of desire in their hearts...they make isolation into courage, strengthening them every step of the way...and they won't break from pain.  They live lives like the mortal can never imagine…and it is from them…their strength, their example…that we can find the strength to live each day.

The mortal live for much more than they can honestly know…and the immortal can assure us of this.  The immortal have the knowledge that while their full purpose in life may forever be unclear, that they live for much more than they could ever guess.  They will not give up on their lives…knowing that they have a reason for living, and will not become blind to the hope for a bright future.  While the immortal tend to be blind souls, living as the moments come to them, they continue to live life.  Though their lives may perplex them, this only makes them fight stronger for the truth.

With the birth of a new year, immortal and mortal are faced with the chance of new opportunities and a fresh start.  Each year, a tree sprouts a new flower...everything is reborn...and yet life begins fresh anew…and never fails us; each generation, living or yet to live, depends on this cycle of life...it is essential to life...all that is, and will be.  While the immortal live a life that is unending, fated to suffer the passing seasons, as their friends grow old and die, they will never break, their steps unfaltering, teaching us by their example that life is always worth living, even if you are unsure of your purpose in life.

Life is precious, as are your memories, family, and all the things in life that you hold dear to your heart.  Cherish them, and live your life to the fullest; live everyday as if it is your last, and long not for immortality, rather, find hope in the Gift of Death, and the promise that you will rest in peace once your journey in this life is done.  For the immortal,…do not find peace like this…and suffer through life, staying strong and steady on the promise that they have purpose for living.

Do not take upon your soul the bloodstained rose of immortality, rather, live life not searching for your purpose…for you shall never find it, instead wasting your life away looking for something that can never be determined no matter how matter you live.  Do not search for your purpose in life…hoping it will make you wiser in the future…for this is not so.  It is your memories…they help us grow with time, helping us to grow wiser with the years.  Immortality…is bittersweet…and the life of the immortal…is filled with memories, sad and sweet, which give them, and should for us all, rekindled hope in themselves.

Yet if there is one thing that the lives of the immortal can teach us…is that true happiness is not found in immortality.  True happiness…is found in your heart…it is found in the treasure chest of memories where the things you hold dear will never leave you.  Never let go of your future…never lose faith in yourself…and you will find true happiness…

“And so...all things end...as the years come to end...and all things eventually pass away…so does faith and hope in the future of all that is good in this world...and here I lie...a fallen soul...and a broken spirit...” ~ Mitsukai the Echidna; A Fallen Angel
