Okay, took a break from writing "Birth of Hope" to draw this because there was one character you really needed a visual for, and that's Lulabei. I also took the opportunity to draw Evie, although she won't show up until close to the end of the entire WoLaD story.

Anyway, on the left is Lulabei Meek, the girl Shadow has found himself in love with. One of Kulfos' youngest servants, she is given to Shadow after the Dark Elemental tries to help protect her from the wrath of the king and his son, Urlumin. After a couple of months together, Shadow admits to her that he loves her, and for the rest of the time that he remains in Valordian, they are together.

And get off me about pairing him with a fan character. She doesn't represent me for starters, and second of all it's not a permanent pairing. I'll end up pairing him with Rouge, but she doesn't show up until 2000 years later. lol I'm not really big on putting official characters with fan characters anyway, but I did it for the sake of the story...more character development.

His relationship with her will fix his attitude towards Rouge from the moment that he meets her. You all were wondering how Shadow goes from being relatively open and carefree in his youth, to being closed and somewhat gruff in the present/future, well, his experience with Lulabei and eventually losing her, is part of it.

Anyway, in the story I mentioned nobody in the village wore shoes because they were so poor and didn't have such advanced knowledge, except for the king, his son, and Arandor and Shadow. So Lulabei isn't wearing sandals, and has only the one dress she is wearing, frayed and patched many times to keep it wearble.

Notice the patch over her breast? Yeah, that's courtesy of Urlumin in a fit of rage. It's all part of the environment. Once Arandor and Shadow liberate Valordian everyone starts dressing better once their new leaders call in the echidnas to help them.

Lulabei is very shy, as her last name, Meek, oddly implies, mostly because of abuse from the hands of Kulfos and Urlumin, as well as watching her childhood sweetheart, Braden, being hung right before her eyes. Shadow helps her to be brave, and he keeps her from giving up entirely. The two forge a strong bond.

Now for Evie. You've seen her before. This is a full body shot of her. She doesn't exist until over 2000 years after Lulabei does. She meets UnLight after he teleports to the Folso continent, badly injured after a fight with the heroes. He goes there so he can recover, but collapses by the side of the road after using so much power.

Evie, 13 at that point, and her older brother Jasper find him there, and take him home to help him. The citizens of the Folso continent are largely removed from the wars on the Salas continent. These two kids though, know all about it, and want to go fight with the resistance. However, they don't know much except what they've heard, and thus don't know they are harboring one of the two big enemies, UnLight.

UnLight, always sympathetic to the innocent, realizes he still needs to heal, and so he claims to have amnesia to get out of explaining who he is. Evie, who is immediately smitten with him, calls him Torch, a name he takes from that point on whenever he needs an alias. His other alias is the name Terra.

Once he has recovered, explaining that he is six years older than Evie, nineteen, he is ready to leave. Evie makes him promise not to get a girlfriend, and to come back to her someday. He agrees, humoring her with a pinky promise, fond of her spirit. The entire time he is with them, they speak of wanting to save their beautiful world, and he agrees with them, promising he is going to rejoin the resistance.

Evie's desire to save the world so her children can know it when they are born someday especially touches UnLight's heart. It's part of what persuades him to return three years later. When does, Evie has grown up, and as he spends time with her, he finds himself falling in love.

Decades earlier, an encounter with Shadow had the Dark Elemental tell him it would take something big to persuade UnLight to rebel against Mukot, and at last, UnLight has found it.

Anyway, yeah, Evie becomes the object of UnLight's affection, and she alone is what begins to convince him to turn away from Mukot. Unfortunately, the motivation may have come too late for UnLight to come out of it unscathed.

Evie Bloom is her name, Evie being short for Evelyn. She's a female lynx, and is desperate to run away to the Salas Continent to fight in the resistance with Jasper, and Torch, who she does not know is really UnLight, somebody she is taught to be one of her enemies. Her love for Torch is strong, and is the one other reason she is so desperate to grow up, so that he'll love her as much as she loves him.

She's a big player at the end of the story, even if her role is somewhat minor.

As always there are issues with this but I'm happy with the outcome <3 Now back to writing "Birth of Hope" XD
