Description
This is the cover for a new short story I'm gonna do. Yeah, I really can't type all that well with a missing H key, but I don't care.

Explaining the picture will give a brief synopsis of the idea.

Basically, in this story, Zenith, Nadir and Halo are trying to get on the straight and narrow. The guys work as bouncers in a bar, while Halo is a waitress in a restaurant down the street. She usually gets off work around the same time their shifts start.

It takes awhile to get used to this new lifestyle, but after several weeks they get used to it, and are no longer stealing or causing mayhem to get by. Eventually, they are able to start renting a small apartment to live in together..

Once things really start to look up, however, they get bad again.

One night, as Halo's shift is winding down, a fight breaks out between a girl and her boyfriend. He manages to get her outside, and the staff assumes that's the end of it.

Halo gets off work, and heads outside to meet Zenith and Nadir like she does every night, saying hello to them before she heads home.

When she gets outside though, she doesn't see the twins yet. Instead, she hears something coming from the alleyway between the restaurant and building beside it. She goes to look, but her ears are rattled by gun shots before she can get a better look at what's happening.

The same girl from before, a mongoose, runs out of the darkness and sees Halo standing there. Halo sees bloodspatter on her clothes, and she's holding a gun. Halo puts two and two together and realizes what happened.

Already sirens are heard. There were police nearby who heard the shots. A police car rounds the corner. Coming from the opposite direction, Zenith and Nadir, who also heard the noise, come running.

The mongoose girl glares at Halo and throws the gun at her, before tackling Halo, bringing them both to the ground. As the cops arrive, they see Halo fighting to get the girl off of her, making Halo appear as the aggressor.

They break up the fight, and the girl accuses Halo of killing her boyfriend before trying to kill her. Zenith and Nadir argue that Halo would never do such a thing, and Halo also stands up for herself. However, the mongoose girl does a good enough job convincing the cops otherwise.

Halo is quickly arrested, charged with murder and assault.

After being booked she is stuck in jail for several days, unable to make bail. At the first hearing Zenith and Nadir beg for mercy for Halo, and the judge agrees to lower her bail to a manageable level, on the promise that Halo will not run away and will stand trial for the crime she was accused of.

Halo is more than willing to do this. However, while she is free she finds out she is pregnant. This scares her, because she knows what happens in prisons. She knows women are fair game to violence, pregnant or not, and that nobody will take mercy on her or her unborn child.

She decides to run away instead of facing trial. Before it was nothing to her; now she feels she has too much to lose.

Zenith finds all this out and decides he can't let her get sent to prison. They all know she is innocent, but because the police believed the other girl before, they fear Halo won't get a fair trial and will be found guilty anyway. Late one night, he and Halo run away, becoming fugitives.

Nadir must stay behind and find a way to clear Halo's name. While Zenith and Halo run for their lives, Nadir has to gather evidence, finding it nearly impossible to. The police are more than convinced of Halo's guilt. He feels he has no one to turn to.

Until one night, he meets a friend of the true criminal, a grey and purple squirrel named Grace. She promises to help him, but at a price.

Meanwhile the months go by and Halo is closer to giving birth with each day. Unless Nadir can clear her name, Halo will have nowhere to go for help when that day comes for the child to be born.

It's a race against time, and all the while Zenith feels powerless. All he knows now is he can't let Halo get captured, no matter what it takes, even if it means turning back the the violent ways of his past in order to protect her.

Kinda sad but I love the idea <3

And yes I plan to write it out at some point, expanding on it. It would become part of the reality that one of my other stories is part of, perhaps a precursor to it...I'm not sure.

Anyway there are issues with the picture...Zenith's arm bugs me the most. The angle is wrong. I also think Halo's arm is too short, but what can you do.
