Description
Snow. There was so much of it, and yet it was gentle and warm to the touch, like a soft blanket falling like feathers around them. Sure it tickled their fur and skin cold when it touched them, but it wasn't the chilling kind that required bundles upon bundles of clothes. This was the special snow of Celestia, planet of Seasons, home of Ayono, their Guardian. Winter was born of depression and agony in her life, and yet somehow, as it the case with many dark times, something beautiful did come of it. The season of Winter was born, and while most know it as a cold, empty, and lifeless time in nature, it did have it's enchanting beauty. In this special home where Guardians could walk, and few mortals would ever tread, the endless winter had achieved an even greater beauty.

This is why he chose it. This is why despite her having a smile like the morning sun of spring, laughter like the warm breeze of summer, and beautiful autumnal pinks in her fur, hair, and eyes, he chose the frozen breaths of winter to be the time they were wed, the snow, ice, and pale gray skies to be their chapel.

It was almost time. They walked together hand in hand now through this frozen realm, to find the perfect place for their vows to be taken, so they could be bound forever.

Penumbra of Dimension held Niena's hand securely in his own. Niena, Guardian of Music, a Heavenly Jewel, one of three. Sometimes he still had to pinch himself to remember he wasn't living in a perpetual dream. Four beautiful children they now shared, two daughters, Amelia and Niennel, a son, Umasou, and Niena's first child, her daughter Nagatha, that he loved as his own. It was Nagatha's father that kept them from this marriage for longer than Penumbra would have liked; Niena would be the last Jewel to be wed. Yet Penumbra held nothing against him, Kyosho Yang. He understood the pain he held inside, and how the Yang he bore made it difficult to move on from it when everyone else, Niena included, had done so.

She had died so horribly, losing baby Nagatha in the process, as she had yet to be born. Kyosho lost everything, and almost lost himself. He lived in anger and violence for ages...suffering longer than most. He met Medula of Dreams, another Jewel, and while she was the mother of the one who had killed Niena, Mukot, in a corrupted state, he somehow opened his heart to her. Even when Niena was later brought back to life, as Medula was, Kyosho managed, building his new love and family with Medula. Niena would always smile, but she was lonely, yes, so lonely.

He smiled while they walked, thinking about it. His role in the tale was less than glamorous. Like Mukot he too became a corrupted puppet for Zero of Absence, and almost ruined things for Niena, Medula, and Kyosho. He attracted a lot of anger from people for his actions, despite his blindness to what he was actually doing. Niena, however, forgave him, and had him released from where he was imprisoned, giving him a chance. Others forgave as well, like Medula, even Kyosho's brother Kiyoshi Yin. Kyosho, however, only offered ignorance to spare him from anger.

Eventually he would lose even that gift of ignorance, for what happened next was seemingly unforgivable.

Penumbra spent time with Niena, looking after her even as people troubled her. Protecting her from harm, keeping her company, trying to soothe over the loneliness. He found himself falling for her, but kept it inside. He was a Rogue, and Rogues had a bad reputation. This on top of his past deeds had most forgiving him but many of them still unsure, and most he feared would down right refuse a love for Niena, their precious Jewel, most of them loving her like a mother as they did Medula. Still, he could not push down the feelings, and instead tried to keep them quiet, all the while nursing an aching and longing heart.

People began to find out, however, and he was gently nudged by some of them, to speak his heart. He began to realize his fear of what others would think was eclipsed by wanting to realize his love for Niena, not for himself, but so she would not have to be lonely, and would have that kind of love in her heart again. He wanted her to be cherished, comforted, pampered, and treated like the angel she was.

Somehow when something is meant to be, the story writes itself, the words pour out freely as if spoken by the heart, not needing the permission of the mind, or the tongue to get them out. Hesitation builds but falls down like a dam of twigs breaking under the swell of a flooding river. He painted a picture of his heart with his declarations, and thus touched Niena's with it. Tears fell when a smile could not dictate the entirety of the feelings on its own. Hugs, laughter, tears, and eventually, a kiss. There was no fear that could shake this security, this warmth, this love.

But the dream hadn't started yet.

He looked around, trying to pick a good spot for their vows. The snow, despite being so warm he and Niena did not have to dress warmly for it, reminded him of the coldness some gave. Sometimes Niena was shaken by the disapproval, but she recovered. Though delicate she was strong, giving, and understanding. Still, none were as damaging as Kyosho, who did little more than not kill Penumbra, though he wished it, when he discovered what had happened. He made it clear he would never forgive Penumbra, and from that moment on had to work on biting his tongue, keeping the Yang under control, only so Niena would be happy.

This was how the next year and a half went by. Kyosho looked the other way when Niena became pregnant with Amelia. He would do the same with both Umasou and Niennel. Penumbra worked hard to make up his sins, slowly and gradually earning respect and acceptance, becoming one of the leader figures, not just for being with Niena, but for how hard he truly worked. Despite being a Rogue he no longer traveled, and stayed grounded. He loved being a father more than anything, taking Nagatha into his heart when she too was resurrected, at the age of a seven year old. He loved his growing family. He loved his new life. He loved his Niena, dearly, so dearly.

Yet he watched. He watched as Kyosho's son Akeme had the first real Wedding the Guardians had had. He watched as Kyosho and Kiyoshi had a double wedding to their women, Medula and Agatha. He watched as Hatsuharu and Diana were married, how Cain and Midas proposed to their girls Arisu and Ayako. He watched Kephalos marry Athena, the remaining Jewel. He watched Niena be the bridesmaid, the guest, the maid of honor, even the proud mother as she saw Akeme as her son. She never got her wedding. Though Kyosho looked the other way when Niena had her children with Penumbra, the two of them marrying was a boundary Penumbra feared would never be crossed.

If things had been perfect, Penumbra would have married her before Akeme even got the chance to ask for Deannalee's hand. He would have immediately, perhaps after their first Christmas together shortly after they met. He had wanted it for so long. He wanted to see his beautiful Niena as a breath-taking bride.

He wanted it for her.

Then one day, something changed. After Moriko, Kyosho's daughter, was broken after a fit of uncontrollable rage unleashed from her father, it was recognized that Kyosho's Yang was out of control. As Moriko recovered, Kephalos took a step to heal Kyosho, sealing away the Yang. This changed something in him, which you could see when Moriko, who recovered from her break, ran to her father's arms, and he laughed and truly smiled, unlike he had in ages. He behaved in a way only a few, such as Kiyoshi and Niena, could remember him being.

This was the change. This was when the dream could finally take flight.

He looked around, he saw a frozen lake. He grinned, tugging on Niena's hand, walking her ahead. He heard her giggle as she took hold of his arm. Yes, he had found the right place.

That day Kyosho was spending time with a group of them, which included him and Mukot, the two Kyosho probably hated the most. This is where the change really began to be noticeable, for he laughed and joked with Mukot, and even did the same with Penumbra, going as far as to say he was happy with how much Penumbra had done for Niena. He could only grin. He knew now was the time. He waited only a little longer, wanting some time, before mentioning he wanted to marry Niena, to Kyosho.

It was almost like a son asking a father for his daughter's hand in marriage, and yet Penumbra felt it was important. He understood how much Kyosho had loved Niena, and still did despite being with Medula, much like Omega did for Medula, his former wife, despite being with Akemi of Life. He showed how serious, and dedicated he was, and the care in his heart was as clear as the light in his eyes. Kyosho could see that now, as the rest of them all did for so long now.

His grin was answer enough.

All that was left was the bride to be, and a ring that would finally get to see the light of day, and the warmth of her delicate fingers, after spending months upon months in a velvet box in his pocket.

"Oh Pen, this will be just perfect."

That ring shimmered now under the light of this frozen lake, the water flowing beneath the sheet of ice glowing under the surface. He grinned, seeing the snow around them. He pulled her down to her knees, going with her gently, his purple eyes looking into her pink ones.

"Why Niena I do believe it is. You picked the perfect place."

She tilted her head curiously, her eyes blinking so innocently. "But, Pen, you're the one that lead us both here." She giggled. "You picked it not me."

"Mmm, that's true, yes." He touched her cheek, smiling. "And yet you, Niena, are my guiding light, my one and only star. Were it not for you, if I had not you to guide me, we wouldn't be here now." He paused, looking around. "This is why I wanted winter, the snow, the cold and twinkling sky to be our wedding site. You embody all of the warmth of summer, gentleness of spring, and beauty of autumn, and yet, it had to be winter. Winter is cold and desolate yes but, it leads us all to spring, to a time of birth and warmth, to our own personal heaven. That is just what you did for me, bringing me from the bitterness of winter, to the longest and most glorious spring, our little heaven. This Niena, this is where we will walk into that spring, together." He placed his hand on her wrist, their eyes looking down at it, before they looked back up at each other.

She smiled. She used her free hand to gingerly wipe her eyes, as she giggled. "Penumbra you, you're...you have a way of being as warm as summer yourself." She put her hand back in her lap looking at him, and still smiling. "I couldn't look forward to anything more than walking into that spring with you, and to stay there with you, always."

He loved that face, that beautiful voice. He chuckled softly kissing her cheek, then closing his eyes and simply sitting close to her, enjoying that moment. The dream wasn't about to start. It was already happening. Their life together was the dream. The dream, was their love. Now, here in this warm, but wintry realm, they would take one more symbolic step, heading forward into their never-ending spring. The rainbow that comes after the storm. The smile that eventually replaces the tears. The hope that survived to outlast the sorrow. The forgiveness in Niena's heart, that had given Penumbra one more chance, and given them both, the paradise of their lives.

Give this girl everything, I don't care how you have to do it. She's the most awesome person EVER and I love my little sister to pieces. <33 One day we'll be little old ladies sitting on a porch still talking roleplays. LOL imagine how many kids they'll all have by then XP

Anyway I did Niena and Penumbra for her as Christmas gift a few years ago. She still insists on using it as a computer wallpaper and well...I wanted her to have one in digital, and of them in their usual clothes. I know the background is kinda similar to the one I used for Tatiana of Sorrow, but Penumbra is marrying Niena on Celestia in the snow area of it, and I thought it would be an easy background to do...ignore the ice pond it sucks lol

And yes the snow in Celestia can be cold but it's not so bad there that you'd freeze to death...that's why Niena is dressed like that. ...don't ask why Penumbra in socks I didn't think about it until later lol. Pretend like they're slipper socks that have rubber on the bottoms for traction XP

Or perhaps they were by the fire and he just got the impulse to go on a walk X3

Anyway he's picked their wedding spot, and the story is pretty much just him reflecting on the day they met, and the story that got them to where they are now. He can't wait to give Niena her beautiful wedding. He would give her the world, literally, that's how much he loves her. He's always worked so hard for her, and he's really earned respect, and all but made up for the fact that he was corrupted and used that one time. That's a testament to just how much he loves her <3

He's got a beauty and he knows it. He knows how lucky he is and doesn't go through a day without thinking about it. He loves her dearly, and she loves him very much in return.

As for the picture I hated the sketch but loved it once I was finished. Again the background is similar to Tatiana of Sorrow's picture, and the icy pond sucks, but I think it's nice otherwise. Niena's arms are too short, and there's other hiccups, but I'm happy with the picture. lol it's acceptable enough for me to post besides Gem usually winds up liking any crap I do XD

So yes, Gem this is for you! I love you bunches and bunches little sis and I hope you have the most awesome birthday ever! Here's to another year of our nonsense XD <3 <3 <3
