Description
After I drew the Anthro Jade, this was something I just had to do.

After Arandor, Jade was my first fan character. She was the first fan character I drew, and was one of my first pieces of artwork that I submitted here. She's gone through a lot of changes over the years.

Jade Lightning, as she was known at the time, was created in November of 2007. Her birthday is October 22nd. I created her as a very distant cousin to Knuckles the Echidna, and the Guardian of her own Master gem, known as the Master Jewel, for it is a gemstone like no other.

She was the last left of her tribe living on a floating island called Spirit Island, which rested on the exact opposite side of the planet in opposition to Angel Island. She lived with her four friends, Karlie the Bat, Starling the Hedgehog, Skylar the Fox, and Strawberries the Bunny. Together they formed Team Lightning. Each of them had their own special powers, while Jade was a master of them all.

Over time, I began to develop her character; she soon was only the Master of the Elements, and while she knew how to fight, I got rid of things like super speed, strength, and telekinesis in favor of making her more unique.

In WoLaD, she has a crush on her distant cousin, Knuckles' older brother Hidama. However, when she finds out she loves Delilah Lynn, she is crushed, and almost gives up on love completely. She meets Joel Richmond, who you can see with her in the top right 2009 picture, and he steals her heart. They have two children, one daughter named Alexina, and another named Claire.

Anyway, most of the elements involving her part in WoLaD were invented within the past year.

I keep telling people that anyone can learn how to draw. As you can see, my first attempts at artwork were feeble at best, and make me cringe. However, I still love my older work because it shows that I tried my best, even when I had next to no skill to fall back on.

The best picture from 2005-2006 was obviously the last one. I loved how the Master Jewel looked, but the way I drew her head and dreadlocks was still dreadful. I can't believe how stocky she looked in the beginning.

2007-2008 was really when my art took off. I took art classes that year, and infact all of the pictures of Jade from that time period were done after I had started these classes. The first and second were drawn while I was still taking them. I love the third picture of her drawn in Camillia's outfit. It's one of her best I think. The last picture of her really shows my style beginning to change, at least in my opinion. It was of course part of the WoLaD series of pictures. I also finalized the design of her diadem to the current design.

2009 isn't over yet but brings us to present day. I think that first picture of her in the top left is alright, but I like that third picture of her from 2008 better in all honesty. The top right 2009 picture, again, shows her with her husband Joel. She's wearing the ceremonial outfit, the same that her ancestor Alamalie wore. On that note, the ceremonial dress of her with the Master Jewel was an early prototype of this design. For example, the blue straps are present in both designs.

The largest picture is the current look for Jade. Now she is known as Jade "Lightning" Rodnara, and after she marries Joel, Jade Rodnara Richmond. This is her anthro look, and is something all of my characters will soon have, for now Jade belongs 100% to me, body, mind and soul.

Though she is no longer my fursona or my main "Main" character, I still love Jade, and that is why she will always be one of my top characters. I'm looking forward to writing about her in WoLaD, and enjoyed putting this progression chart together.

So let this back up what I've said before: Anyone can learn to draw. If you think I'm good now, just look at where I've come from. I think what has helped me is that I loved my art no matter how it looked, and because I gave myself that freedom from a criticizing eye, I was able to gradually improve and love every minute of it.
