Only specialized units had multicam back then. When I was downrange, there was talk amongst the higher-ups that A.C.U. pattern was getting phased out, but no action taken toward the transition from A.C.U. to multicam. So no... we were stuck with A.C.U. lol

In my opinion the UCP looks good in urban surroundings with lots of gray buildings but stands out in most of the environment.

And most of the Army would agree with you. That is pretty much the opinion of my entire unit at the time. It was camo designed for urban environments with light vegetation.

One of the best photos i ve seen so far. The moment and the general atmosphere. You can read the expression in their faces. And the mood. Kudos to you.

As cool as all that Photoshopped, dramatized military photography staged by guys in issue-fresh ACUs might look to the average dA user, I'd just like to say, that this is far more legit. A bunch of dirty, ugly assholes hanging out in some dump of a country, who are anything but photogenic. Not very Hollywood, but to me, it's better that way.
Thanks for REALLY serving.

All of you look good. And nice composition, by the way. Where is this place? Afghanistan?

Yeah, Tangi valley, Wardak Province. That was about a year ago...

Well...I'll put it this way. We were in an area where there were so many Improvised Explosive Devices, we couldn't drive anywhere. We lived up to our Company name and motto: "March or DIE!" We walked/ran everywhere in our Area of Operations. And in my case, I was a SAW gunner (Machine Gunner) that meant carrying loads in excess of 60 pounds on my body on missions--sometimes 80 pounds if I had to carry an assault pack for overnight marches.
Was it hard? Well, Soldiering in general is hard. But the Tangi Valley physically broke people.

I'm a new guy, I just got here. In First Platoon. Most of the guys in that picture are gone or leaving soon.

I wasn't in that particular picture. We had to get separated for a week since they had to man an observation post while me and the rest of the squad had to run missions.

Damn! Talk about a photo worth a thousand words! Everyone in this pick is oozing personality and charisma.
The sort of vibe I'd expect to see more in a fantastical character design lineup rather a military photo.
That is, the concept of the soldier is usually tied to a sense of uniformity and homogeneity... that is clearly NOT the case here!

Such is the way of Charlie Company 1-503rd...I loved every single one of those idiots in my squad. XD

Truly a badass shot! I don't even know these cats, but this kinda makes me wish I did.
If there were some sort of docu-drama chronicling the exploits of this squad I would watch the hell out of it!
Are you in this pik BTW?

Unfortunately not. I have others, but, I would hardly think myself interesting enough to post pics with me in it. lol

That is the name of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. "Sky Soldiers"
Much like the 82nd is known as, "All American"
