Born in 168 AD, his courtesy name is Zilong. Zhao Yun was a renowned general who served during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and three kingdoms period of China. He is celebrated for his loyalty, bravery and martial prowess and he is one of the most admired figures in Chinese history and literature. He joined Liu Bei's forces early in his career and became one of Liu Bei's most trusted generals and advisors. One of the most famous exploits occurred during the battle of Changban. When Liu Bei's forces were ambushed and scattered by the numerically superior army of Cao Cao. Zhao Yun risked his life to rescue Liu Bei's infant son, Liu Shan, from certain capture. He fought his way through enemy lines and successfully returned the child safely. Zhao Yun also played a crucial role in various military campaigns and battles including the battle of Hanzhong and the defense of the Chengdu. Zhao Yun continued to serve Liu Bei's descendants even after Liu Bei's death. In 229 AD, Zhao Yun died of illness at the age of 61.
