Description Morana and her twin brother/lover Jarilo. Gods need not follow the same conventions we do.

Morana is frequently depicted as a cruel winter goddess of death. However, my own interpretation is that she is a goddess of seasons who changes with the annual cycle.
In springtime she is a young maiden, courted by Jarilo, a fertility god.
In summer, she marries Jarilo and becomes a mother and mature woman.
In autumn, Jarilo is found to be unfaithful and Morana's father (Perun) and brothers kill him.
In winter, she ages and becomes a bitter old crone without her love. It is then that she is the fearsome goddess of death. By winter's end, she is trapped in an effigy by mortals and burned alive.
And the following spring she is reborn and the cycle begins anew.
