well, i am new to photography in general. after walking around everywhere and saying "oh, that'd make a great photo", i decided to open a credit card and buy myself a DSLR. that was last october, and i've been obsessed ever since. hehe. i decided to buy some film cameras too so that i could learn more about the technical aspects of photography, and i looooooove my AE-1!! i bought it from =MyPrivateParty with a 50mm f/1.4. i'm in love with analog now, but still use my DSLR often. thanks for the comment and fav!

kinda same thing with me...bought a DSLR january this year (and started with photography) – but now I rarely use it anymore...

rhapsouldize In reply to ComeWatchMyArt [2007-11-01 21:32:23 +0000 UTC]

yes. analog is so much more fun and exciting! but it sucks when you think you made a great shot, and it's not focused right. i find focusing to be a lot harder than i thought it'd be!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ComeWatchMyArt In reply to rhapsouldize [2007-11-01 21:38:34 +0000 UTC]

mhm. that's true. if you begin to love analog, then you have to check out a rangefinder camera. they are so much fun to use and also try the Kodak Tri-X once, it's got an amazing contrast and a lovely grain (I mainly use it as my b/w film). what films have you used so far?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rhapsouldize In reply to ComeWatchMyArt [2007-11-01 21:41:29 +0000 UTC]

i actually have a yashica lynx 5000 rangefinder, but i stillll haven't gotten a abttery yet. it's been two months now. i keep forgetting or never have any money. i wouldn't have bought tmax, but my friend ordered it and sold me some. ^Obsidian-Fox also recommended tri-x, so i will get some... but the other issue is that i wanted a c-41 film so i could get it developed more easily. for this, i bought ilford xp-2 black and white, which ~Treamus claims to be the best c-41 film. so i expect it to be great, since he's pretty much an expert.

ComeWatchMyArt In reply to rhapsouldize [2007-11-01 21:44:04 +0000 UTC]

yeah, I've also heard great things about the xp-2. I've got two rolls in my camera bag, but everytime a film is finished I think...nah, I better use another roll of tri-x

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rhapsouldize In reply to ComeWatchMyArt [2007-11-01 21:49:02 +0000 UTC]

hahaha. i still have to finish my second-to-last roll of tmax, and then i'm probably not going to get it again. i'm not that happy with the way the prints look. i'm excited for the xp-2!

ComeWatchMyArt In reply to rhapsouldize [2007-11-01 21:55:14 +0000 UTC]

hm. the grain looks also a little bit strange to me on this print. just by looking on it, I actually would have said it was a digital image. you could also buy a cheap canoscan to scan your negatives, then you don't have to pay for the prints (and later print, what you really like on baryt paper ). hm, but then again, I don't know how expensive/cheap it is where you live...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rhapsouldize In reply to ComeWatchMyArt [2007-11-01 22:00:03 +0000 UTC]

it's probably just some dust from the scanner. on the print itself, the grain is finer, as on the laundromat print i submitted. i can't afford a neg scanner right now, so i have to use the regular scanner at work. that's also why i want the c-41 film, so that i can get the shots scanned onto a cd rather than scanning the print. it cost me $19 to send in one roll of film to kodak!

ComeWatchMyArt In reply to rhapsouldize [2007-11-01 22:08:20 +0000 UTC]

that's expensive indeed, but it'd be the same price here with prints. Luckily, I've found a labour, that can process b/w for ~6$ and C-41 for ~4$ (they also do prints on baryt, but that's EXPENSIVE). Hm. I didn't expect it to be as expensive as in Switzerland (everything's expensive anyway in this country), because in some countries like Germany you get everything done (incl. prints) for just ~5$ ... meh.

rhapsouldize In reply to ComeWatchMyArt [2007-11-01 22:09:50 +0000 UTC]

wow. $5! i would love that. yes, i've only been in the zurich airport, but everything there was ridiculous. hehe. flying over the alps during sunrise, though... you can't beat that!

yeah, I hope I get some interesting shots as well next week on my flight to Thailand...if not out of the window then maybe of the people on the plane.

I'm excited too, although I go almost every year to Thailand (to visit some of my family members). But this time is the first time I go as a 'hotographer' we're having something like a little chat here, eh? good god there's no one who deletes these comments, because they're off-topic (not comments for your deviation)

haha, oh man, i have so many conversations in my photos... that would suck if they all got deleted!

are you part thai, part swiss? you're lucky, man. i'd love to be part of two different cultures and be able to travel to each country all the time!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ComeWatchMyArt In reply to rhapsouldize [2007-11-01 22:31:21 +0000 UTC]

yep. half half. and the cool thing about having family members in other countries is, you don't visit the so called 'tourist' places, where everyone is. you get closer to the culture of them, and that's what I really like (it also offers me more intimate photographs I hope)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rhapsouldize In reply to ComeWatchMyArt [2007-11-01 22:34:13 +0000 UTC]

yes. that is really awesome, man. you are lucky! i know a guy from nepal whose family lives there, and he wants to bring me there so that i can take lots of photos... i would loooooove to go there, but i am always broke! someday, though, i will go.

ComeWatchMyArt In reply to rhapsouldize [2007-11-01 22:45:45 +0000 UTC]

hehehe, thanks, man! ditto. your name is awesome. rhapsouldize doesn't really mean anything... just a name i made up. well, rhapsodize is a word, and then i just added in the "ul" to make soul. i like the way it sounds.
