Hehe, I like how Nash has a lot of pointy bits (ears, elbows, sleeve puffs)

Thanks! It feels good to finally draw somebody else other than Jared haha. I'm trying to refine my artstyle a bit, bring it back to what it looked before I started going with smoother lineart (kind of like this faun one:Β rhavencroft.deviantart.com/art… ). It feels easier to draw with this style; flatter colors and lighter shading seems to work better for me.

It's fun to try different styles. I've been trying more lines. I don't have much time to draw now though. It's busy up here.

Yeah, it's the opposite with me. No matter how hard I try, I can't let go of my lines. If I do it always looks...terrible. It really depends on what you go for though. If it's realism you want, lines wont help as much. I used to want more realism but now I'm pretty happy with heavy stylization. That will probably mean I'll never make my own book cover, but I'll guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Oh? Do you usually have busy summers?

Trying to get lines without such hard edges is hard.

Yep. Summers, especially now, are busy. We brand calves and we're also trying to get fences put up or fixed and make sure the cattle are in the right places.

Experimenting with different brushes helps, or different settings/pen pressures. I ran into that problem when I first started drawing, but now since I go for brushes that mimic pencils I'm always trying to avoid edges that are too smooth.

Sounds like hard work.

The problem is when I don't use lines that I have to use the selection tool to shade without going off the flat colors. Tends to make jagged edges.
