Description
The wings are based off of types insect wings.Standard: I... actually just drew what I thought was 'standard' in winged humanoids that I have seen. >3> There's not really a standard among the insects, but I wanted something that the race could measure against. I was thinking of Mario Kart and how they have a standard kart there. So these wings types are basically average in every way. xD Though, given their look, if I had to assign them an order of insects, it would probably be Lepidoptera, the butterflies and moths.
Halteres: From the Order Diptera (flies, mosquitoes). These insects have a second pair of wings, called halters, which is very creative. They aid the insect in flight and control.
Shielded: From the Order Coleoptera, the beetles. Beetles have a leathery forewing, which shields the more delicate flying wing. Take ladybugs, for example. We all know about the red with black spots on the top, and on the bottom are the veil-like wings. The double membrane of the Shielded class protects the more delicate membrane which also protects the muscles and bones underneath.
Sleek: Based off Order Odonata, the dragonflies. To me, Dragonflies have always been the fastest little buggers. You could never catch up to them :V Though the were fun to chase. What makes these wings drastically different from the others is the advanced ball and socket joint, right where the wings connect to back. While all Alati can fold their wings, flap their wings, and spread them, the others lack the range of motion that the Sleek group has. They can rotate their wings a lot, kind of like your arm. So, in the image, while they are positioned up and rather high on the shoulder, they can rotate downwards, to the wing tips are closer to the ankles.

*Raises her hand.* Teacher, I have a question! Um, do people get born with different wings, or do these develope over time?

Yes! Good question! They are born with the different wings, and due to the physical differences in the wings, people can tell wing type straight away. Like, when one is born with shielded wings, they only have 2 joints, which differs from the standard because of one less joint.

B-but teacher, what if one with shielded wings, wants to do what the haltere winged ones do?

They have to work really really hard and COULD pull off more stable control or turn past some tight corners if they're lucky. But they're different types and are built differently, so it'd be really hard for them to.

Oh, well, I'm glad they're not automatically sorted, but can try hard to become something they dream of. ^ ^

Nice, I like how you've given each a speciality, do you think you'll do the same thing with the horned ones?

Thanks!
And I was planning on it! Though I haven't really thought of their functionality all that much yet. |D;;
