Description
A lot of people apparently encountered this in their Pottermore sorting. This features *I-Am-CHILD and myself, obviously both getting Ravenclaw. It happened to be her house of choice.
Mine was Slytherin, and I was expecting Gryffindor if I didn't get it. Appears that Jo had other plans for me, though!
a collab with *I-Am-CHILD

Well, when I first got sorted, I was of course a little girl and rigging my answers to get Gryffindor from the Harry Potter website; which of course asked about your tastes in food and favorites animals and colors. But I later found a test from personalitylab, which consisted of nearly 200 questions and went on a scale of sounds the most like me to sounds the least like me, no multiple choice except for a few small areas. It was genuinely based on a lot of attributes of your personality. On the test, I scored very heavy Slytherin points, so that's how I identified from that point on.
But, what a person wants DOES influence what house they'll get put in, as we see with Harry - and with some people in the Pottermore testing who are given a choice between two houses. And while yes, just because you don't know who you are doesn't mean that that's all it's based on. The houses don't tell you who you are, they help you become who you want to be. If Draco had wanted to be different from his entire family (like Sirius had), he wouldn't have ended up in Slytherin. The hat thinks about what you what.
But, I did the same thing. I had to talk myself through the possibly of being in a house other than Slytherin and see how aspects of my personality matched up to other houses. Of course now I've come to terms with being in Ravenclaw, and I find that it suits me better than Slytherin ever did, but it's not something that you're really prepared for at first - despite what you might tell yourself! I think that as long as the questions are answered honestly, you should have faith in whatever you got; some people argue that the test is a little short to determine something like the house placement, but I think that people who say that are people who aren't truly thinking about their answers.
(Thanks for the actual conversation here! It's nice to really converse about the topic!)

that actually sounds very interesting! you wouldnt happen to have a link to that particular test would you? im curious now XD
and yeah the hatsalls i think that happens when the answers you give get the same amount of points to two houses (in that case is it possible for a threeway hatsall to happen? or even evenly split between all 4 XD unlikely but pretty sweet if it could happen lol)
also, I take back a little of what I said before a few of the question with only 4 answers do seem obviously skewed towards each house (the goblet question for instance, though the ravenclaw and slytherin answers tend to get mixed up i noticed, so what seems ravenclaw actually gives point to slytherin and vice versa, I thought the shiny sparkly diamond potion was obviously slytherin and the inky black hallucinogen was ravenclaw, when it was the other way around)So I could see these questions would take into account your preferences, since if you wanted to be in say gryffindor, you would likely choose the obvious gryffindor answer instead of what you really would take
I liked the hufflecup cup of plums and chocolate cuz thats sounds tasty, but i dont think liking tasty foods makes me more hufflepuff than ravenclaw, and i ended up choosy the sparkly diamond one anyway lol
I also agree on this last one, as long as you answer honestly, you should be happy with what you got and instead of complaining about how its not like you, it would make you feel better to understand how much it is like you XD (before taking the test, i was 80 percent sure Ravenclaw, 15 percent slyterin and 5 percent gryffindor/hufflepuff lol) Though i admit if i was put in other houses, i could find similar traits in all of them, enough to not be unhappy in each house, but admittedly im happiest in ravenclaw
(no problem I like wondering about these things ^^ *Ravenclaw Pride? XD* )
Another thing I find really interesting is wand descriptions, while my house fitted what i am basically on the outside, my wand description expanded on that, it was like sure, im Ravenclaw, but what KIND of Ravenclaw? and after reading my wand descriptions, which actually fitted very nicely to what kind of person I am when I'm really close to other people, aka, someone who knew me very well would agree me and my wand fit to a T, when someone who doesnt know me, at first glance would find my wand very gryffindor-ish and not like me at all.
(My Wand is Redwood, Dragon Heartstring, 13 Inches, Supple by the way XD) see? it sounds very like a gryffindor kind of wand, even though im not really that gryffindor a person XD (Red Color, Dragon , Associated with fire and red, its a big wand too, either a tall dominating person, or someone with a huge ego is what i first thought lol)
and then the actual description is something unexpected, redwood is strongly attracted to witches and wizards who already possess the admirable ability to fall on their feet, to make the right choice, to snatch advantage from catastrophe and is considered a very "lucky" type of wand, (Good for mishaps in potion making I suppose XD never failed a potion yet lol) its also in short supply so its rare. something else not ont he pottermore site that i found about redwood, is that its other name Sequoia, was named after a Cherokee Indian cheif who created a syllably (albphabet type thing) for his language and was the first to ever do so, he also ran the first newspaper in his language! I like this kind of secret association with learning and creativity very much a Ravenclaw trait ^^
and then of course the core, dragon heartstring, they tend to learn quicker than other cores and cast the more powerful, flamboyant or flashy spells, easily being able to cast very "impressive" type spells I would think, it is prone to the most accidents, but it my case thats balanced out with redwoods lucky nature, it is the most likely to turn to the dark arts, but only if it was neccesary and logical to do so I think
This makes me a quick learning and curious kind of ravenclaw, someone whos good at what she does and isnt afraid to admit that and is ever searching for more to learn like a bit knowledge hungry and eager to try and test things out and be excited XD i kill the boring bookish ravenclaw stereotype because i love learning with a passion and cant wait to try out new things! *I LOVE my wand ^^*
and lastly the length and flexibility, 13 inches matches quite well with the wand, a note to my somewhat big personality, but my flexibility being supple makes sure i dont come off as arrogant or boastful, im not afraid to be wrong, in fact, i like making mistakes, because it means i get to try again and learn even more!
So really, its the perfect wand for the type of Ravenclaw that I am and i love it

I think the wand length is based on the height question. I'm 13 1/4 inches lather wood, pheonix feather surprisingly swishy.

i thought i would have been in Ravenclaw, so was surprised when i was in Slytherin, but then i began to notice that i'm not a studious person, and i sometime scheme to get out of detentions at school... (eg. not bringing in a school book when homework is due) so, though i don't think im very ambitious, i do fit slytherin.
not too sure what to make about my wand though...y: English Oak, Dragon Heartstring, 12 1/2 Inches, Surprisingly Swishy.
the discription is: A wand for good times and bad, this is a friend as loyal as the wizard who deserves it. Wands of English oak demand partners of strength, courage and fidelity. Less well-known is the propensity for owners of English oak wands to have powerful intuition, and, often, an affinity with the magic of the natural world, with the creatures and plants that are necessary to wizardkind for both magic and pleasure. The oak tree is called King of the Forest from the winter solstice up until the summer solstice, It is said that Merlinβs wand was of English oak (though his grave has never been found, so this cannot be proven).
and you already know about the core. but my wand almost seems to suit a griffindor or a hufflepuff, though perhaps not as Merlin was said to have been in Slytherin... i dunno... what do you make of it?

oh wow, no that definitely sounds like a slytherin kind of wand, loyal for good times and bad, demands partners of strength, courage, fidelity (basically high quality) powerful intuition is a water associated trait and if u go by the four elements, slytherin is the house of water. and of course, Oak being King of the forest? I can see where you would think Gryffindor because its seems to have a very big ego, but the difference is the first to parts, loyal for good AND BAD times and DEMANDS partners of high quality. Where Gryffindor and Slytherin are both houses that are usually big egos and loyalty and pride, Slytherin is more an awesome club full of great people all loyal to eachother, and Gryffyndor is about the greatness of the self, with or without people. Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are kind of the same way, Where Gryffindor and Slytherin are the obvious extroverts, Ravenclaw is the self obsessed house of introverts, and Hufflepuff the group based house of introverts.
So in conclusion yes, you sound like a very slytherin kind of person lol which isnt actually a bad thing, too many people think Syltherin = Evil lol and the added touch about Merlin makes me think that this was supposed to be one of the more "obviously" Slytherin wands lol

... i didnt realise i was such a Slytherin....
i guess i can see what you mean... i never thought Slytherin was evil anyway... their members were just misguided...
but, still... i don't *think* i have a big ego... and im not an extrovert either.... but i guess im a slytherin in every other way...
i missed out a bit of the discription in case you wanted to know this: holly becomes King as the days begin to shorten again. This divide is believed to be the origin of the old superstition, βwhen his wandβs oak and hers is holly, then to marry would be folly,β a superstition that I have found baseless.
dunno why i left that bit out... it didnt seem importaint at the time...

well if ur asking who have bigger ego, gryffindor or slytherin its definitely gryffindor lol XD so if ur worried u have this unabashed huge ego just remember, a Gryffindor thinks "I am the greatest their ever was!" while A Slytherin thinks "WE are the greatest their ever was!" you have or will find loyal friends with just as powerful a presence as you and you will stick together forever.
many people see Slytherin as "evil", and "evil" means petty, disloyal, untrustworthy and everything bad, but its simply not true, Slytherins are extremely loyal, trustworthy and never petty, but only to people they deem worthy of it, aka usually other Slytherins but thats not a hard fast rule, the hard fast rule is "Ive decided you are worthy whoever you are and you are now part of the awesome club. Congratulations!"
Think why Draco even tried to make friends with Harry in the first place, he knew who he was "The boy who lived", he knew he was worthy, he didnt care about his personality or his face or what he looked like, or what Harry liked or disliked, Draco just recognized "worth" and acted like a true blue Slytherin, he didnt ask for friendship, he extended an invitation into the group. Which, depending on who you are, is a more powerful association than just "friends".
also the exotrovert/introvert thing isnt really a thing lol XD i think, i was just trying to word what i meant by their being different "group" or "selfcentered" houses, and then "huge ego/large presence" and "not so huge ego/go with the flow" or better yet "i need other peoples recognition" and "i dont need other peoples recognition"
so it goes like this:
Slytherin "Group Sentered House" and "I need other people's recognition."
Gryffindor "Self Centered House" and "I need other people's recognition."
Ravenclaw "Self Centered House" and "I don't need other people's recognition."
Hufflepuff "Group Centered House" and "I dont need other people's recognition."

Well, not everyone. A lot of people have accepted where they belong at this point; growing up in the Harry Potter generation, no one wanted to be in Slytherin at first because only "bad guys" went there. But as time went on and we saw more and grew older, we realized that, well, we belonged in different houses for a reason. I personally have friends who refuse to believe that they're anything but Hufflepuff! Most of the people who find they aren't where they want have never formally been sorted, or were sorted by a cheap quiz that asks what your favorite color is.
And thank you!
