This is one of those cases where a patterned background works nicely. I like the white background for this icon somehow, though I'm not sure entirely why. Maybe because it lets you see the characters. Speaking of, having a large cast standing on the "ground" of the icon is one of the few times I'm ok with the logo being somewhere else.
However the other part of the background - the patterned stars - point to what I mentioned on your Shimoneta icon about carrying from the front to the back flap. Unfortunately neat lines just stand out on folders that would show different perspectives/angles if they were real. I can't say I've got it down completely myself, but I've tried to do that in my couple folder icons with patterns: ralon17.deviantart.com/art/Ino… or ralon17.deviantart.com/art/Lov… .
