All my monsters end up looking more or less the same. Need some new ideas. Any suggestions? Drawn with black Microns.Related content

People have said that about a few of my monsters. Hadn't heard of that meme before. There's definitely a similarity, but the hands aren't big enough and the head is too human-like. If any of my monsters resemble the rake, it would probably be this one: [link]

Maybe switching up their anatomy? Arms for legs, mouths for eyes, etc? And I'd say take a look at insects too. Maybe something with spider-shaped legs but with human hands?

Perhaps draw them less anthropomorphic and try to think of something more alien, or even look toward the micro for inspiration? There are some wonderful little beasts too small to see without a microscope.

This creature looks eerily similar to that of Adam Jones. The stuff he makes for concert poster art. Check it out, if you haven't. The band 'TOOL'.

I'm sorta familiar with the band, though I didn't know the guy made poster art too. Looked them up, definitely see what you mean. But these types of monsters/creatures aren't that original. Like the Gollum character in Tolkein. And much much older, the Danse macabre style art that was being made in Medieval Europe. Basically just making a person unnaturally thin and gaunt, almost like a decomposing corpse. But a living corpse.

This is amazing!! He looks a little sad, or maybe like he's looking for something. He doesn't seem very hostile, just like a scavenger, rather than a predator. I love the frailty of him, he looks deadly fast. While cannibalism is creepy I've always been a fan of the no mouth creatures, the science experiments with sewn up mouths. That terrifies me because it means they kill for the sake of killing, rather than hunger. I love the blind look and the no ears, it makes me think that he senses vibrations through the ground, and that's a terrifying thought. I'd love like a background to this creature though, you should definitely write little synopsis about all the monsters you create!! Really awesome job, I love it!!

Thanks for all the thoughtful comments, I really do appreciate it. And you're absolutely right, I need to start making backgrounds. I'm always so focused on the characters themselves, I forget how weird they look in the middle of an empty white space.

Yes, exactly. I grew up reading Tolkein constantly, lots of the imagery and ideas are still stuck in my head.

All of your monsters seem to have two things in common: well defined muscle tones, small eyes. (not counting the skull like creatures) Maybe try dressing them in rags so the muscle tones don't show as much, or draw one FAT creature. Maybe two headed creatures instead of one? Perhaps extra limbs or bigger, misshapen eyes? (I see you did ONE with extra limbs) Perhaps standing up fully instead of crouching, or two creatures in one image, or two creatures coming out of one torso. I dunno. I like em all the way you've drawn them. Especially this one. I like how you draw their muscle tone so well and the shading you do. Maybe you could just draw a picture of me... lol
Seriously, your monsters are great, I like them very much. Take my suggestions with a grain of salt. I couldn't even begin to draw ONE of your monsters.

Suggestions? Well, try adding these:
-Excess limbs (6+ limbs total)
-Tentacles
-Wings
-Multiple chests/heads/etc
-Long tongues
-Patterned skins (like stripes, checkers, dots, swirls, etc)
-Horns/Antlers
-Armor
-Scales/rips in skin
-Gore?
-etc?
