The only thing that left Martenpaw’s mouth was a fierce, wordless snarl. It conveyed all her ugly feelings, all the soft spots and bruises she’d never given into such weakness to admit. Unmistakable, now- and when Martenpaw leapt, her features were, momentarily, a perfect picture of loss.
