Description
Original Size: 10" x 15", Medium: AcrylicsThis piece is a homage to art that I enjoyed years back (and still enjoy today...!). As a kid, I used to love reading my brother's "Creepy", "Errie" & "Famous Monsters" Magazines of the 70's. Often, they had this type of scenario on their covers.
The executioner guy is not trying to harm the lady. Rather, he is her protector as she wanders away from her castle to "get away from it all" & relax a bit. Being a Queen is hard work, you know!

Thanks for the info on Lawrence. The name sounds very familiar and I'm gonna to check out the work once I finish up on DA.
I enjoy the art of other artist very much and I'm flattered by your comments. You have the makings of a great style in art. I'm not just saying that to be nice, so I hope you'll keep it up.

Still, even though you may not make it a major goal or anything as such, I hope you will still try to sketch/paint freely from time-to-time to see what develops. You never know...

It happens. I'm also told I'm a great writer by friends and associates (who never hold any criticisms or critiques back...). I've been writing for year now. Recently, I decided to send some work to an associate in the media industry. We'll see how it goes.

Perhaps, but not in my case. I'm my own worst critic, so no matter what others say, I strive to do better.
By the way, good show on your fourteen years of writing. It shows much dedication to the craft.

It is the plight and lot of the true artist. As long as you always enjoy what you do (even if sometimes it can be frustrating and rough...), keep at it.

Uh-huh...Giving up is an easy way out, I think. So long as a person does their best...A bit cliche, but true, nonetheless.

i would agree even if it is a tad cliche it is a truth non theless
copping out after you invested your whole life to it is not only weak but it effectively renders your life useless
now who do that ?

Another excellent point...which is why I enjoy what I do, regardless of what successes I have or do not get.

agreed off course a degree of success is desirable
especially if you want to turn it in to your fll time job as wel
but if its not fun any more then dont bother i suppose

Very true. I would love to make art a full-time, successful living (and I did just a few years back , and quite well...long story why I am returning from a brief hiatus), but if I ever lost the love of creating, I would just retire early...

well i believe you were full time artist and the mention of making a illustration for marvel was also a big hint
personally i think i am a better writer then artist and am more interested in becoming a writer
( great i want to be something in one of th ehardest busineses to break in to )

I did art full-time a few years back, but got tired out with so many projects. I am starting my full-time career again (I'm part-time now, but still at five hours-a-day committed to my art!!)
Yeah, I also heard getting into writing, especially in the comics field, is dreadfully difficult. But if you have the skills and talent, go for it. Not every 'professional' writer on the scene today is actually a "good" writer, per se. Some are more talented than others, and it appears you have a good grasp of comic history and other subjects (which definitely helps...)

actually i was referring to being a normal ie novel writer not a comic book writer
though that would mean id be the first dutch writer in american mainstream comics and personally i dont see that happen
comics over here in europe are a whoel differnt kettle of fish even differing per region they on the whoel though are far more adult in nature not always geared towards childerne in a bigger A4 format with 44 pages
in france belgium and spain they are usually hard cover and geared towards adults ( though not always )
they never the less do not have the stigmata super hero comics have ..or had

Ricardofantasyart In reply to bluekatt [2006-03-06 04:15:14 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, you're right. Unfortunately, comics in general are still stigmatized in the US as 'kiddie-fare' by many (though it has improved over the years and more acceptable...), which is why the general public is surprised when a super-hero movie touches on 'adult-themes' and character. If people would pick up a comic one-in-while, they would realize comics today have more adult-oriented storylines.
Still, I wish the US market had more variety. It's mostly superheroes, and I like to read more fantasy, westerns and the like (though some savvy comic creators have also bucked the trend and created some marvelous genre work...)
Regardless of your writing goals, I wish you the very best of success, friend! It's always worth a shot...
